Discuss Bad Times at the El Royale

Caught a full screening at NYCC last week. Jon Hamm was there. It was really cool. The movie was one of my favorites this year. Pretty much the entire cast was great, especially Hamm & Hemsworth IMO. But Bridges and (believe it or not) Johnson were both very good as well. Erivo was also good.

I'd definitely check it out, I might even see it again.

I've already seen it twice. Once at a indoor theater, the 2nd time at the drive-in. I was able to get more out of it on the 2nd viewing...it was that good.

For the first half I was able to enjoy it for what it was, but it really dipped when Billy Lee turned up as any sort of black humour and knowingly overblown atmosphere that had existed up until then kind of dissipated and it seemed to be trying to be serious and suspenseful, but failed on both counts. By the end I was happy it had finished before they shoehorned in a 73rd song.

5/10

Now that I think about it, I was getting tired of watching and listening to that girl do her singing.

Hi, yes; Thanks! Still going to the drive-in watching double features every week. Where have I been? As you have noticed I really don't come here very often and mainly only to read what ever anyone has said within any of the threads I'm subscribed to. You know, someone replies to a thread I've contributed to and receive email updates on. Since the one's I've been on have been movies I've talked about from a couple years ago; I only get the notices on those every now and then.

It's interesting; when there is a comment on something I've seen a long time ago...usually it gets mentioned that they've seen it on some sort of streaming service. Of course that would be the case, but it's interesting to me to learn someone had just seen it as I've forgotten most about what it was I watched so long ago and it's still fresh in their mind.

Most recently I've been really involved with Blu-ray.com. I've been buying lots of Ultra HD Blu-rays and discovered I'm ending up like those guys who collect movies but that was never my intention! But as time goes on, those discs do add up! I've ran out of space and had to buy additional cabinetry so those discs don't end up collecting along the floor! So now I'm spending a lot of time reading through and participating in the threads there I'm subscribed to.

Got rid of my DirectTV and bought into something called a Roku. From there I only subscribe to MotorTrend and HBO Max...it's my first experience streaming. I really don't have much time to watch anything on there, but when I do; I find myself enjoying it quite a bit. One movie I saw and really liked and my best guess is no one has talked about it here on TMDB is "Solaris" (1972.) I'd be embarrassed if there are comments about it because I didn't check it!

Your right though, I should come here more often. By the way I subscribed to Letterboxd it seems quite interesting but I've never used it.

UPDATE: There are actually three comments posted about Solaris!
