Discuss The Girl in the Spider's Web

The original movies were a peculiar mix of Scandi Noir and comic book adventure. They worked because they mostly got the balance right. The result was quirky and inspired. While this entry is interesting and worth a watch, it falls short of the others by a fair margin.

In my opinion this is because it veers too much into comic book super hero territory. A lot of it is super silly and totally unbelievable. It was also predictable right from the beginning. Not an ounce of suspense and not a trace of any kind of twist.

As an aside, aren't we past the notion that non binary sexuality is some kind of marker of 'otherness'? A decade ago this worked with the original movie, altho even then it got tedious, but in 2018 to be having lesbianism and bisexuality as a defining feature of the 'rogue' characters comes over as contrived and lame. To be clear, I have no problem with depictions of lesbianism and bisexuality etc where it is relevant to a story or character, it is the rule based dramatization of sexuality that it tedious.
