Debate Resident Evil: Bienvenidos a Raccoon City

...than the Paul Anderson movies. However, the actors looked nothing like their counterparts in the games, and the sfx (especially the makeup and practical effects) looked terrible. Also they used the same strobe light effect in one fight that Uwe Boll used in Alone in the Dark, making it look extra low budget.

As for the plot, they also took some liberties to the stories of the first and second game (which this movie is based on), and added in several characters just to kill off. So if you've played the games you knew right away everyone who was going to die once a character was introduced. Also they made Leon a complete moron.

Overall, the movie was a disappointment, and I ended up liking the Paul Anderson movies better even though this movie was a shit ton more faithful to the games.

I was undecided about watching this now or waiting until it was on streaming and your review has helped me decide... Streaming it is!

I never played the game. I enjoyed the 1st series to a point but it got old and boring.

This film looks to be a reboot of the franchise. On first watch I kepty trying to compare it to the previous franchise. On second watch, I watched it as a stand alone horror movie trying to ignore the previous franchise. Second watch was a better experience and I like it more now. It has a better horror movie 'feel' to it. The Boss Monster at the end was a dissappointment tho. No real threat there.

Future installments on this rendition of the franchise need to step up a notch or two. They need to keep the horror 'feel' but do much better on the threats. Boss Monsters need staying power and garner more screentime. I'd like to see more zombie horde battle sequences as well.

All in all it was entertaining and I will likely watch it a few more times. The next film will determine its fate.

I've only casually played the games and seen the Milla Jovovich RE films, so I was familiar with the character names. So you're right about knowing who's going to die and who was cannon fodder, but honestly I felt like the producers couldn't do anything about that.

I did feel it stood out from the other RE films, maybe not as much as it hoped but I appreciated the tone it was going for.

One thing that grated was the constant references to that time period, the 90s, particular the music.

The casting and the shit CGI killed my soul. I feel like they could have done a better job with a much bigger budget. Or they should have kept it more small.

Overall, the movie disappointed me. In other matters, like the new "Matrix". I didn't particularly like the acting. But I liked the new "Kingsman", this film, in my opinion, is simply excellent :)

Finally watched it and wasn't impressed.

If they really wanted to be closer to the original games they should have given us Barry Burton! A mutated plant and/or spider would have been nice too.

As for Lisa Trevor and Wesker all I have is 3 letters... WTF?!!!

I loved the "feel" of this movie. Claire Redfield visiting some eerie town... to visit her brother... who separated during a childhood tragedy... her breaking into his house... Kaya gave her best. I really wanted it to work. Too bad the movie never found it's footing. Maybe it tried to be too many things.
