Isabelle Nanty is a Paris concierge, four children to look after and a fifth in gestation with a loutish and uncaring husband who runs off with the girlfried of one of the lodgers in her building. This same lodger called Le Bison has rather strange hours and both he and Dorine ( the concierge ) get on each other's nerves because each makes noise at the "wrong" time for the other ! The fact that their respective mates have run off together nevertheless bring the two together and with Dorine's children getting very attached to Le Bison, there are the makings of an "idylle" between the two of them which the return of the two offending mates fails to break

Quand Dorine sort les poubelles le matin, Le Bison rentre se coucher. Quand elle passe l'aspirateur, il essaie de dormir. Bref, tout sépare cette gardienne d'immeuble de son voisin bohème! Pourtant, un évènement inattendu va les contraindre à s'entraider...

Él es Louis Le Bison, un hombre de alrededor de treinta años, algo brusco en sus maneras. Vive deprisa y lo ha visto todo. Cuando el marido de Dorine la abandona por otra mujer la vida de los dos da un giro inesperado. Al principio Le Bison siente rechazo hacia la familia. Es algo completamente desconocido para él, que siempre ha sido un diletante hedonista. Sin embargo acaba involucrándose en la vida de Dorine y la sustituye en sus tareas, sacando la basura y repartiendo el correo.
