Sayo en Keiji zijn naar Nieuw-Zeeland gevlucht om te trouwen, weg van de tussenkomst van Keiji's afkeurende moeder in Japan. Tijdens hun huwelijksreis hebben ze de vrijheid om hun liefde te uiten, buiten haar repressieve invloed. Maar op wat de gelukkigste dag zou moeten zijn, verdrinkt Keiji en moet Sayo, volgens de gewoonte, terugkeren om bij haar wrede en egoïstische schoonmoeder te gaan wonen.

Sayo and Keiji have eloped to New Zealand to marry, away from the interference of Keiji's disapproving mother in Japan. On their honeymoon, they have the freedom to express their love away from her repressive influence. However, on what should be the happiest of days, Keiji is drowned and Sayo must, by custom, return to live with her cruel and selfish mother-in-law.

Keiji e Sayo decidono di sposarsi e di fare il viaggio di nozze in Nuova Zelanda, lontano da Tokyo e, dalla madre di Keiji, contraria al matrimonio. La coppia attraversa il paese sconosciuto, in compagnia di un gruppo di turisti. Paesaggi e camere d'albergo, riprese video e tentativi falliti di fare l'amore, disagio e desiderio, silenzi e pensieri che fluttuano. Inattesa, arriva la morte (un suicidio, un incidente?) e il ritorno a casa.

Sayo y Keiji, dos jóvenes pertenecientes a clases sociales distintas se enamoran y, ante la oposición familiar, emprenden un viaje a Nueva Zelanda con la intención de casarse clandestinamente. Sin embargo, durante el viaje, ocurrirá algo que alterará su relación.
