There aren't a lot of acting roles for former A-listers who are pushing 80. Actors are the vainest people on Earth, so if someone offers a role to an elderly actor and is willing to meet their terms, they generally jump at the chance.

There is an expression to illustrate your point. Hunger justifies the means!(in french:'la faim justifie les moyens') Whatever the situation of this excellent actor, I just emphasized the mediocrity of the role and his uninspired interpretation. But in such a film one can't excel, of course. But that does not prevent me from continuing to follow the films in which H. Keitel appears.

Repped by ICM, Oscar and GG nominated, he may not be Tom Cruise, but I'm pretty sure he could get into any Hollywood party he wants.

Also, all actors have bills to pay just like us, some of invested their money wisely, others not so much. Hence taking crap roles in crap movies.
