1980年5月，为了躲避刑警们而逃跑的法律学院学生哲秀 (全秀贤 饰) 遇见了美术学院学生明熙 (金彩熙 饰)。曾经说着「示威的话会有什么改变吗？」、对这个世界毫不关心的名熙，开始渐渐地对连老旧衬衫上的扣子掉了都不知道、高喊着「人权」的哲秀的信念感到好奇。 时间来到2018年5月的现在，脑中时间停留在1980年5月的名熙，随着时间的过去，精神分裂的症状更为加深，连警报声也都能让她极度不安。对于这样的名熙，本来只有埋怨的女儿熙秀 (金花雨 饰)，在一边了解至今折磨母亲的伤口是什么的同时，也陷入了冲击。

This is the story of a father who died mysteriously in May of 1980, a mother who lives in the shadows with a bullet in her head and not being able to forget May 18th and their daughter, and the nation's greatest comedian, Hee-soo.

1980년 5월 과거. 형사들을 피해 도망쳐온 법대생 철수와 마주친 미대생 명희. “데모하면 바뀔 것 같아요?” 라며 세상에 무관심했던 명희는 낡은 셔츠에 단추가 떨어진 줄도 모른 채 인권을 외치는 철수의 신념이 무엇인지 점점 궁금해진다. 2018년 5월 현재, 1980년 5월에 멈춰있는 명희는 날이 갈수록 정신 분열 증세가 깊어진다. 사이렌 소리 하나에도 극도의 불안 증세를 보이는 명희가 그저 원망스럽기만 한 딸 희수는 지금까지 엄마를 괴롭혔던 상처가 무엇인지 알게 되면서 충격에 빠진다.
