Discuss 1917

Interesting gimmick the use of the continuous shot.

However it became hugely distracting as the film progressed and day turned to night and back into day again. "My god!" I found myself proclaiming, "What on earth is going on here? What kind of witchcraft is this?!!"

For, although we had a continuous fix on the movements of the chap, the entire night had passed in about 30 minutes tops. How could this be I thought to myself - Is it possible that the earth's rotation on its axis was considerably faster a century ago? Are our days getting ever longer?

I don't think so. It may be that it was simply the folly of using the gimmick for the entire film.

Similarly distracting when his buddy carked it yet he seemed unable to hear multiple vehicles and dozens of soldiers pulling up just yards away...

For these reasons - despite some quite breathtaking cinematography at times - we here at Midi-chlorian Count Reviews cannot really justify pushing this above a solid 2/5.
