Discuss Paperback Hero

I don't think this movie is really meant to be heavily analyzed. I was just curious what other people thought of the interactions between Jack/Ruby/Hamish/short-haired blonde Ziggy.

I think part of the problem, is that the plot doesn't really make sense, or is a bit out of order.

Spoilers:

Jack goes to Ziggy, asks to be on TV, and asks for Ziggy to work with him on book 2. (this is all after Ziggy lets it slip to Ruby that she knows Jack is the writer, straining Jack/Ruby's relationship. Which seemed like not-a-big-deal to me, but whatever, I'll overlook Ruby's response to it, as movie magic) (Whether Ziggy is purposefully manipulating Ruby to get her out is probably irrelevant for purposes of the discussion)

We see Ruby crying back home, watching Jack on TV. I guess she's impressed that Jack is taking ownership of his words(?). Maybe she is thinking that Jack is symbolically being open, than he wrote the book, about her? Or she's sad to see him moving on/away to the big city? (But I thought Jack/Ruby already had a love/intimacy scene earlier?)

Then Jack and the blonde sleep together. What was the motivation for that? I guess Jack assumes Ruby & Hamish will be married and out of the picture. Seems like something that should have been omitted. Seems like it was only put in because it's a genre obligation. Seems like it's gonna be an odd future when Ruby finds out Jack slept with Ziggy.. I assume they aren't working together on book 2..

It's a cute movie, and not worth discarding over dumb plot holes, I'm just wondering if/how other people make sense of the order of events. Seemed like bad writing.
