Discuss The Adventure of the Wrong Santa Claus

[SPOILERS FOLLOW]

"Octavius never fails."

Octavius receives an invitation note from friend Bertha Randall, insisting that he come to her family's Christmas party, disguised as Santa for the children. Octavius heeds the invite.

As fate would have it, on party day, right after Octavius dons the Santa costume he brought along with him, a burglar breaks in to the Randall home, disguises himself in an identical Santa costume he finds in a closet, sneaks behind Octavius, konks him on the head, knocking him out, then flees with several wrapped gifts in tow.

O soon comes to, and a chase to catch the thief and to recover the gifts ensues.

This vintage holiday short's cute ending is that, following the party, O and Mr. Randall's pretty sister Grace - the two have been all googly-eyed with one another - slip away. The next scene reveals why: The newly-minted lovebirds are smooching behind a drawn drape. The little Randall kids discover them, O bribes them with a coin apiece to remain silent, the kids go away, O and his sweetie then look straight at the camera, see we viewers out here, react with smiling embarassment...then O draws the drape closed again so the smooching can resume.

Final intertitle: "Cupid never fails."

I enjoy this delightful look back in time to Christmas, home and holiday decor/decorations, clothing and hair styles, as well as to things/life in general of 108 years ago. This film is quite the charmer. It holds up well to modern viewing.

Here it is. Enjoy!

Thanks, wonder!

I treated myself to the 2002 KINO DVD A CHRISTMAS PAST: Vintage Holiday Films 1901-1925 for Christmas. Lots of good stuff (and with a dedicated nice score [that for the most part I'm a fan of] for each, recorded especially for the KINO release) on there, that I'm gradually working my way through. This film has been my favourite so far.

Still four more included films to go.
