Discuss Jodie Foster

Much has been discussed about Foster's acting skills over the years... One of the best actresses of her generation, two time Oscar winner, Clarice Starling, and such. So I would like to know now, what's your opinion on her abilities as a director? What's your favourite work of hers out of the ones she's directed? Are you eager to see more of her work behind the camera or you couldn't care less? Whatever comes to mind.

I may be a bit biased in that sense, but I prefer her as a director now. I find her work so enjoyable and she's done so little. So many people complained about her not coming back to the big screen but if I have to choose I'd rather not see her on screen and see a movie that comes entirely from her. Little Man Tate is probably my favourite but in general I've always enjoyed her work behind the camera and I find her just so much more interesting. What about you?

The best thing about her directing a film is when she talks it. How important and meaningful it is. Personal. True. Could listen for hours. And yet, if I cut out the PR work that is always a little bit in these interviews, there's a gap between what she says and what you actually see on the screen. Aspiration and reality, they are different. And it seems dircecting JF struggles a bit in her overambitious-ness to keep pace with the talented, smart, successful actress JF. Am I disillusioned? No, because I know for sure we just haven't seen her magnum opus yet.

I have found her directing to be efficient.

If you see Money Monster would you really think that is a Jodie Foster film?

Wasn't it the Mayor of Hollywood (GC) made it and hired some people?

If Clooney made it he would had got Grant Heslov to direct or do the job himself.

Not if MM was also a vehicle to help redeem Foster from the Beaver/Gibson disaster.

Even though my favourite is Little Man Tate (and I still cannot understand why Adam Hann-Byrd's performance is bashed for no reason), I think her best work is either Home for the Holidays or The Beaver. More complex movies, and her direction was a bit more polished in those. In "Little...", though incredibly charming, you can tell she was actually a beginner. Money Monster was a nice opportunity to demonstrate she can do mainstream if she wants to, and I think she nailed it, but it didn't seem to come as a surprise (achievement) to her. She was all like, "if I starred in so many mainstream films, why wouldn't I be able to direct one". Good for her.

But what did they say was wrong with Byrd's acting?

Well, perhaps it was me reading too much imdb. I never read official reviews, I prefer to read movie buffs and common people on the internet. Something about not being mature enough for the role or believable, but I disagree. I think his performance was great. Btw, whoever was in charge of the promotion of the film was so wrong https://www.instagram.com/p/BN2S3UJAPFc/?taken-by=rewindtees

He was totally believable. JF and the casting agency knew exactly what they wanted and decided for him for very good reason.

Totally agree. He was perfectly cast, even more taking into consideration the kid was not an actor.

BTW the actual LMT casting call from back then, there's a scan of it somewhere.

She's one of my all-time favorite actresses but I really love her as a director too.
