Discuss Reese Witherspoon

Item: Reese Witherspoon

Language: en

Type of Problem: Incorrect_content

Extra Details: Gone Girl is listed as the first project in the 'Known For' section though it does not star Reese Witherspoon nor was she involved with the project. She did, however, audition for the lead role and was turned down by director David Fincher.

She is involved, but not as an actor. smiley_cat

The way that section is currently built, all credits are equals (even a thanks credit!). If a movie is popular, it will be up there. But Travis will improve it eventually to make sure actor only have actor credits and directors directors credits in their Known For sections.

In this case I would say that being a producer for that movie is one of her top achievements, but perhaps still not what you expect to see. Since she is both an actor and a top producer it will be interesting to see how this is resolved eventually. Clicking to see popular movies based on crew would work as an alternative option for me.

Thanks for the replies! I definitely think there is value in crediting her production work. I actually didn't realize she was a producer. I wonder if the issue is the phrasing with the category "known for" in terms of the intended audience. A more serious movie fan would likely want production credits front and center, particularly for well received and/or works that garnered significant attention from audience and critics. That said, I'm not sure if the casual movie-viewer would necessarily think this would constitute the first spot in what she would be known for-- e.g. If you asked a person on the street if they knew Reese Witherspoon from anything, I doubt that any would say "Gone Girl" first thing unless they were confusing her with Rosamund Pike. Just food for thought.
