Jean-Baptiste Maunier (born December 22, 1990) is a French actor and singer. He is best known for his role in the 2004 French film Les Choristes.

Jean-Baptiste Maunier was born to Thierry Maunier, a cameraman, and Muriel Maunier. He has a younger brother, Benjamin. His father sang in a well-known church choir (Les Petits Chanteurs de Saint Marc). Jean-Baptiste attended a Roman Catholic school in Lyon, France. He studied at the Lee Strasberg Institute in New York between 2008 and 2009 to perfect his acting and English, returning to France to sing in Les Enfoirés charity concerts.

Maunier gained fame for his starring role in the 2004 French film Les Choristes, in which he plays Pierre Morhange, a delinquent with an exceptional singing voice at the correctional school Fond de L'Étang. Christophe Barratier, the director of Les Choristes, chose Maunier because "he had the right look" and a marvellous voice. He was also exceptionally appealing for the role.

Following the release of the film, Maunier and the choir took part in numerous concerts all over the world, including Japan and Canada. In February 2005, he left the choir in order to devote more time to his studies and to his acting career. In April and August 2005, he took part in a four-episode television series for France 2, Le Cri, playing a young steelworker. The series was released in 2006.

Maunier appears in Le Grand Meaulnes (2006) as Francois Seurel. In Piccolo, Saxo et compagnie (2006), an animated film, he lent his voice to the character "Saxo". In the summer of 2006, Maunier acted in Hellphone, a full-length film directed by James Huth. In this film, Maunier plays the role of Sid. The film was released in March 2007. In L'Auberge rouge, directed by Gérard Krawczyk (an adaptation of the 1951 version) Maunier stars as Octave. It opened in theaters in France on 5 December 2007. Jean-Baptiste spent a year studying at New York's Lee Strasberg Institute in 2008 to unleash his acting potentials. Staying in the USA allowed him to perfect his English. He returned to France in 2010, and performed in the Enfoirés charity concert of 2010.

Upon entering collège (middle school), Maunier was asked to make a choice between various activities. He chose singing and became a member of Les Petits Chanteurs de Saint-Marc (full name is "La Chorale des Petits Enfants De Saint-Marc"). In the choir, he was tutored by Nicolas Porte. In Les Choristes, the film that made him widely famous for his singing skills, both Maunier's solo and the chorus of "Les Petits Chanteurs de Saint-Marc" are featured on the original soundtrack.

In 2005, to keep a souvenir of his voice before it broke, Maunier decided to sing with Clemence Saint-Preux and had released the single, Concerto pour deux voix, which was in turn an adaptation of Concerto pour une Voix.

Since 2005 he has participated in Les Enfoirés, an ensemble of notable singers and performers in France that periodically performs charity concerts. He contributed a song named "Le Monde Qui Est Le Mien" for the album "We Love Disney 2" and also released a single, "Je Reviens".

Jean-Baptiste Maunier est le fils de Thierry et de Muriel Maunier. Son père est cadreur à France 2. Il a un frère cadet prénommé Benjamin, né en 1995. Jean-Baptiste Maunier passe sa jeunesse à Sainte-Foy-lès-Lyon, dans la banlieue lyonnaise, et fait ses débuts en tant que choriste et soliste dans le chœur des Petits chanteurs de Saint-Marc, dirigé par Nicolas Porte, alors qu'il n'est encore qu'en 6e. Il veut alors devenir commentateur sportif mais son don pour la musique le dirigera vers une carrière artistique.

En 2003, Jean-Baptiste Maunier est repéré pour jouer le rôle de Pierre Morhange dans Les Choristes, de Christophe Barratier, aux côtés de Gérard Jugnot. Il interprète également la bande originale du film, dont 800 000 albums seront vendus en France.

Avec Clémence Saint-Preux, il interprète le Concerto pour deux voix, adaptation du Concerto pour une voix du compositeur français Saint-Preux, père de Clémence.

En 2004, il participe en tant que soliste à la bande originale du documentaire Dogora, de Patrice Leconte.

Il quitte la chorale en février 2005 et il intègre la troupe des Enfoirés la même année.

En 2006, il joue le personnage du jeune Robert dans la mini-série francobelge Le Cri, sous la direction d'Hervé Baslé, et tourne aux côtés de Nicolas Duvauchelle et de Clémence Poésy dans Le Grand Meaulnes, de Jean-Daniel Verhaeghe. En parallèle, il prête sa voix à Saxo dans Piccolo, Saxo et Cie.

En 2007, il interprète le rôle de Sid dans le film Hellphone, de James Huth, réalisateur de Brice de Nice. La même année, il tient le rôle d'Octave dans L'Auberge rouge, de Gérard Krawczyk, où il retrouve Gérard Jugnot et côtoie Christian Clavier et Josiane Balasko. Il incarne aussi Guy Môquet dans le court-métrage La Lettre, de François Hanss.

Il se rend aux États-Unis de 2008 à 2009 pour améliorer son anglais. Il en profite pour perfectionner son jeu au sein du Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute, une prestigieuse école de comédie à New York.

En 2010, il joue dans un épisode de Plan Biz.

En 2011, il prête son image à une campagne de publicité pour Nintendo. Il joue également dans un nouveau film, Perfect Baby, de Wang Jing.

En 2012, il tourne dans le téléfilm en deux parties Merlin, réalisé par Stéphane Kappes, et dans la série humoristique Zak, réalisée par Arthur Benzaquem et Denis Thibault.

En 2013, il collabore à l'album We Love Disney 2 en interprétant Le Monde qui est le mien, tiré du dessin animé Hercule. Il est également modèle occasionnel pour Next Model, Versace et des magazines tels qu'August Man Malaysia ou Opium Style. La même année, il joue dans la pièce La Chanson de l'éléphant, de Nicolas Billon, dans une mise en scène de Bruno Dupuis, aux côtés de Pierre Cassignard et de Christine Bonnard.

En 2013, il signe chez Mercury Records pour un premier album solo qui sortira en juin 2015. À l'occasion d'une vidéo promotionnelle, il interprète la chanson Je reviens.

En 2015, il part en tournée jouer La Chanson de l'éléphant en province, en Suisse et en Belgique, avec Catherine Hosmalin (qui remplace Christine Bonnard). ...
