Personally, I didn't mind Matt and Jenny, I didn't hate them, but I didn't love them either. I would've been okay with them staying, although I definitely could do without the rest of their family (which is the reason that season 1 is NOT my favourite). But Jake and Sam are really part of the cast that made the show, together with Tiffany, Sly and Tony. I was never too fond of Mark, though. Maybe it's because they hardly made any use of him, but he was pretty pointless. Lorena was also a rather unnecessary character, although I get that they added another girl.
