Because of all the message board reading I've been doing on this site and elsewhere about this show over the past week I knew exactly what they were setting us up for in the final scene of the episode last night.
On The Big Bang Theory we learned from Sheldon that he knocks three times because he accidentally walked in on his father with another woman growing up. Now we know that "other woman" was Mary in a wig with a German accent. Essentially the writers were telling us that George never cheated (at least in this instance?) and Sheldon misunderstood.
I'm a sucker for a simple answer to things but I was quite good with that explanation. What did y'all think?

In the PC culture we live in, canon is easily retconned, and it is impossible for George to have ever cheated. Whenever you rewatch TBBT, you will never be sure what is true or not. Sheldon just imagined everything. If in the future spinoffs there are more inconsistencies, be assured that the TBBT is wrong and it's someone's confabulation.

I found this online.
"...series co-creator Steve Molaro put out a statement. In it, he conceded that Adult Sheldon told some not-so-great stories about Dad on The Big Bang Theory ā stories that were conceived before Molaro & Co. knew that Young Sheldon would exist.
āWe try to honor those stories but also like to find unexpected ways for them to play out,ā..."
In the same article it was also stated that the YS writers were willing to change the smaller details as long as they kept the same overarching storyline for Sheldon.
I guess for me, what the writers did right is they wrote a show (Young Sheldon) that was so good that maybe the audience just wouldn't care about the changes.

Yes, I know about this. Writers have done similar things with prequels of other bigger franchises, e.g. Star Trek, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, and I don't really mind as I personally consider them all as happening in an alternate/parallel universe (e.g. in most of TBBT universes Sheldon doesn't dance). If the fans are content with that explanation, then Hollywood has succeeded in re-imagining history and future generations will live on in blisfull ignorance, and I will enjoy rewatching both series as I usually do.

They still apparently didn't rectify the part where Sheldon said he "locked eyes" with his dad, which apparently didn't happen in last night's episode.

And it may be possible that George won't die at the end, we'll see that he just left Mary and the rest for some reason, maybe for that other woman, but Mary couldn't stand the truth so she told everyone that he died. And even had a funeral etc.
Sort of a reverse of what they did with "Roseanne."

I think the part about not locking eyes would be an example of small details that they felt comfortable changing.
I think George will die but I don't know if it will be part of the show. I could imagine a final episode where George and Sheldon spend some time together and then adult Sheldon saying in a voiceover at the end that he didn't realize that was the last time he'd see his dad (or something like that). As invested as the audience has gotten in George the writers might cushion the blow.

Just wanted to say off to the writers for writing their way out of that āminefieldā.
Would be interesting to see how AI would have "worked" that dilemma.
...As for my thoughts on the scenario itselfā¦"Iāll Be Back".
Must say, Mary quite "lovely"!

I guess under the circumstances it's acceptable, but I could recognize my mother's voice even when she did accents.
