Discuss Pine Gap

I just binge watched it. Pretty good, though there are some definite political overtones.

I figured there was a Chinese aboriginal spying alliance fairly early on. There were clues. That smarmy Chinese mining dude who seduced Ethan James's wife, that was too convenient. She isn't that hot, just lonely and vulnerable. One of the supplied facts was that the Chinese were using their businessmen as spies so that one was easy to see. And there were several references to the hard feelings the aboriginals have for the Americans and Aussies building Pine Gap where they did. So it was easy to put that alliance together. Granted, it hasn't been fully revealed yet, but the last scene with Chinese businessman Zhou Lin meeting with the aborignal blogger girl Immy Dupain, whose phone was used to send the information to herself kind of proves that connection. I didn't pick the traitor out before the big reveal. I ruled out the obvious red herrings the show presented for us. Analyst Deb Vora was shown to be very conflicted, and worried, which might suggest that she was the traitor and worried about getting caught. But these 'who done it' shows never make it that obvious. Besides, as PC as shows are these days, they don't want to make a lesbian or gay person the traitor. So I never believed it was her. Likewise, Rudi Fox was never a suspect, even when it was revealed he neglected to mention that he had been in the computer room during the time when the malware was installed. Simon Penny wasn't motivated to sell the audio clip he confessed to until after the malware was installed, so it was obvious that he wasn't the guy. I didn't suspect either Gus or Jasmina; neither had a motive and both were too consumed with each other and with analysis. I couldn't see Moses ever doing anything like that either. But I wasn't going down a list and crossing off names either. So I didn't see that Eloise Chambers was about all that was left. It made sense when it was revealed it was her. She had tried to implicate Moses to get attention away from herself, and possibly gain an advance in position, something denied her.

The US President is portrayed as a bombastic idiot unsuited to lead his country, which is precisely how Hollywood leftists view President Trump. They also portrayed the President as itching to use first strike nuclear weapons in war with China. That symbolism was painfully obvious. I am not sure it was meant to be that obvious. In the show Ethan James committed a treasonous act in lying to the President, and it was presented as a patriotic act. And this is how HOllywood leftists see people who betray and attempt to undermine President Trump. The President in this show was a straw man, the depiction of Trump which Hollywood promotes, and lying to him was presented as a patriotic act.

The show was alright, but not great. But given the not so covert political messaging, I don't think I will watch season 2
