Watching this episode again, it's clear that they didn't really have to rush things, including the test that blinds Mr Spock. But they did anyway, Because Plot/Because Drama.

In NuTrek they would not rush things. It'd be a 10-episode season filled with soap drama. wink

"Jim is grieving for the loss of his brother Sam. There are flashbacks of his childhood with Sam, the rivalry between the two brothers, his affair with Aurelan. 'Sweetie, we can never tell him. It will break his heart.' Is Peter Jim's son?"

"After Spock is infected by the flying parasite he starts to hallucinate. He is back in the psychiatric ward at Starbase 5. Pike praises him: 'You, Mr. Spock, are simply everything that is great about Starfleet. It is a noble sacrifice you've made, to spend so much time away from your own culture.' Then Spock is overwhelmed by an excruciating pain and cries out: 'Michael, help, I need you!'. Christine is at his side and holds him lovingly in her arms: 'It's going to be all right Spock, I'm here for you... always.'

That still only sounds like one episode. smiley

Don't worry, when the writers are done, Kirk and Spock will each get their own - two-parter - episodes. There is also an episode about the origin of the parasites, how they spread across the galaxy, attacking the planets and the people going insane. And much more. wink

They didn't have to rush things, but millions of people were in intense pain and dying, including Kirk's nephew.

It's not like they were waiting in line at the state fair.

True, but the main issue expressed in the episode was that the aliens/madness not spread any further. That was not especially time-critical within the episode.

Well, maybe some of the people suffering from the alien pain/madness would make the Enterprise personnel (especially Captain Kirk) that curing the aliening madness IS time critical.

They'd already been suffering for months, what's a few more hours? Or days for that matter. Especially considering the stakes.

BTW, I like the fact that Jim Kirk's older brother George is assigned as a Lieutenant in the Life Sciences division of the USS Enterprise at the specific request of Captain Pike, and he is a recurring character on Strange New Worlds.

More retcon.

Yes, but I don't mind it. When he came on the bridge at the end of the first episode at Captain Pike's request I thought "WTF--I didn't know that Jim Kirk's older brother was in Starfleet! But it works!

He wasn't in Starfleet.

That's just the start of the retcon.

You may not like it Knixon, but before George's dead body appeared on Deneva, we have no idea what he did before he and his family moved to the Deneva Colony when he took the Life Sciences job there. So it is theoretically possible that George could have been in Starfleet and served on the Enterprise under Captain Pike. That's just how the cookie bounces. However, what I have a big problem with is Jim Kirk appearing on Strange New Worlds's season two. That is a huge WTF are the producers thinking moment for me and I am definitely NOT happy about it.

Today, I watched Operation Annihilate! Bones and Kirk find George dead and Kirk is trying to keep it together when Spock enters the room from beyond and literally passes the corpse without even looking at it. I don't know how much screen time George has on Strange New Worlds but I read that he is under Spock's command. They worked together ,so Spock ignoring George's body is just weird.

What I hate about the writers of Strange New World is that they are milking , exploiting TOS material constantly and they are ruining many great TOS episodes in the process.

2270: Afterparty, Captain Kirk promotion to Admiral.

Spock: "It's been a pleasure serving with you Admiral. I am honoured to have had the opportunity to serve with not only you, but also with your brother."

Kirk: "What? You never told me you served with my brother. Where...?"

Spock: "On the Enterprise, sir, with Captain Pike."

Kirk: "This is the frst time I'm hearing about this."

Spock: "Uhura can attest to it."

Kirk: "Wait, what? Uhura was there too?"

Uhura: "Yes, sir, I was on the Enterprise back then."

Kirk: "You with Sam? How..."

Nurse Chapel: "I was there too!"

Kirk: "You guys are pulling my leg. Spock, are you exaggerating again..."

Spock: "No Admiral, just like my sister once told me..."

Kirk: "There you go again with your mystery sister that you never talk about, because it's classified."

McCoy: "Jim, don't you remember you were there too."

Spock: "And in another timeline you saved us all, the Enterprise, Chris, everyone."

Kirk: "What? How..."
