"Transverse bulkheads. We've set up emergency forcefields between all decks and every section. In the event of a cataclysmic breach most of us will be protected."
"Ingenious."
"I was inspired by an ancient steamship, the Titanic. The engineers of the day constructed a series of special bulkheads, sort of like a honeycomb, that would lower into place if they suffered a major hull breach. In theory, they could stay afloat even with half the ship filled with water."
"The Titanic? As I recall, it sank."
"Well, let's just say I've made a few improvements."
"I knew your fixation with history would come in handy someday. Good work."
RMS Titanic
"The RMS Titanic was a White Star Line British passenger ship, which sank in the North Atlantic Ocean on the 15th of April in 1912, after striking an iceberg during her maiden voyage from Southampton, UK, to New York City, United States."
"In 1985, the wreck was finally located by a joint French–American expedition led by Jean-Louis Michel of IFREMER and Robert Ballard of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. The wreck has been the focus of intense interest and has been visited by numerous expeditions."
"OceanGate Expeditions, the company of undersea explorers, scientists and filmmakers, which completed a successful inaugural expedition to the storied shipwreck in 2021, will be embarking on five missions during the summer of 2022 to further document the site before it's gone forever."
"Because the Titanic isn't timeless. In fact, scientists think the entire shipwreck could vanish by 2030 due to bacteria that's eating away at the metal."

I was watching an episode from one of the Star Trek shows, and there was this dialogue where the Titanic was mentioned, so I thought I'd look it up. It's a pity that it will soon disappear, while other shipwrecks that have been in the sea much longer, are still there.

Thanks.
Also...
Quite surprised and sad about Titanic’s dilemma. Just took it for granted that it would always be.

I've read various things over the years, wasn't some of the bulkhead safety overwhelmed by stuff like the ship's angle so that water went OVER the bulkheads too?

Naw, never watched the original release either. I prefer the Time Tunnel and Futurama versions.
There was also an episode of Supernatural where a demon hated Celine Dion so much that he went back in time and stopped the Titanic from sinking, so she wouldn't become famous. Hilarity ensued.

But they were going to search until they found the wreckage, regardless.

I have my doubts....so hear me out.
In the press release, the official said that there had been a catastrophic implosion ...he also added that the large fragments would not be recuperated because the risks were too high.
Rescuers hoped up to the end to find them alive.. had they failed to find them in time, they would at least have recuperated the submarine so they could return the victims to their families.
On the other hand, had the navy not withheld the fact that it had detected an acoustic anomaly consistent with an implosion, matters would have gone differently.
Recuers would have connected that important info with the fact that shortly after the mothership had lost contact with Titan. They would have understood the tragic fate of the submarine. Implosion.
At that point, it is very likely that already on day one the search would have been aborted ....with no bodies to be salvaged it was too risky ( and costly ) to recuperate mere parts of the wreckage.

You can believe that if you want, but the navy couldn't have been 100% certain of the implosion, and there was still drama - and ratings, and money - in finding the wreckage.

What rescuers? Last I heard, they were using other remote-operated vehicles (ROVs).
