Discuss Inception

I seem to always put this on and never be able to sit through it. I enjoyed it at the first viewing (because I wanted to know what was going to happen) but once the reveal is known, I don't think it holds you from scene to scene like other movies.

i was never able to finish it once lol. tried 3 times. the movie was just too weird for me

Well put. That's exactly how I felt about it. It's a good one time view, but I couldn't watch it a second time. It's good, but that's usually the sign of a bad movie, or just one too long or boring.

I've had the same issue with just about every Nolan movie. They're usually good but I have no desire to sit through them again. I call 'em "one-and-dones"...I did watch the Prestige twice and that second time was a chore, but I was supremely baffled by that one the first time and just had to figure it out.

And some of the dialogue is quite cheesy in.

The acting is quite wooden, it's dull in a few parts and the ending is copying the current trend of leaving it unexplained if he was awake or sleeping.

I love this movie to death. I could never be tired of watching it.

Watched it once all the way through, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Tried watching it again recently, but couldn't make it past the 15 minute mark. I'll have to try it again. And test this phenomenon out on another Nolan movie not named Batman.

I think it spends a long time explaining the concept, and if you've already seen it, it drags on.

Exactly. I read a review saying it had a great ending, and I was stunned when I saw it (but not in a good way). This is the same type of ending you see in "Existenz", which came out 11 years prior. What a ripoff.

I JUST STARE AT ADORABLE LITTLE ELLEN PAGE THE WHOLE TIME.

I like this movie because of its similarities to On Her Majesty's Secret Service and exploration of the heist film sub-genre by Nolan.

...AND ALSO ELLEN PAGE IS LITTLE AND ADORABLE.

Yes, absolutely. Inception is a cure to insomnia. I think I had to have at least 10 goes before I could finish it first time around and then though WTF did I bother. Terrible movie IMHO.

but, you know, this is a meta device. The movie is about a heist that happens in the dreams...

A lot of people in my circles love this movie, but I just don't get it. Makes me feel stupid. Perhaps I'll put some effort into watching it again.

Shutter Island is not dissimilar. I finished it and thought "what did I just watch?" Maybe it's a Leonardo thing - not a criticism, the guy can act, no question about it (Django Unchained, Gangs of New York, Wolf of Wall Street, Catch Me If You Can, The Departed, J. Edgar, The Great Gatsby...he's got quite the body of work). He does not take low-brow scripts, that's for sure.

And, for the record, I think its current rating of ~83% is balderdash. I'm hard-pressed to rate it 7/10 - no movie that people wouldn't want to watch again deserves the rarefied air that's reserved only for the most worthy of films in history.
