I'm confused, why do they have two people playing the joker?

Because Jared Leto's Joker is so irrelevant they can just ignore him.

This. But this new film is in a different time. Re imagining of sorts. Supposed to be a one off but if it does good Im sure they will push for another one.

Plus movie studios just seem to do what they want these days. Redboot a character 3 times in 5 minutes, ignore the last 7 sequels out of convenience. There are no rules any more.

Yeah. Glad I am not the only one who notices this.

YOUR COMMENTS ARE TRUE,EXCEPT THE IMPLICATION THAT THE REBOOT/SEQUEL TRAIN IS A MODERN EVIL...THEY HAVE BEEN PLAYING RUN IT BACK AGAIN WITH THE FLICKS SINCE THEY STARTED MAKING THEM...NOT NEW.JUST NEW TO YOU.

Yes, you can say things like the Hammer Dracula is a Dracula reboot, etc, etc. But they never did it with the consistency they do today and with so little time before the previous incarnation. It's become such a regular occurrence that the term reboot had to be invented to describe the phenomenon. That's a modern term.

And ignoring sequels? To my knowledge that is a very modern thing. I could be wrong but if you know of a film that did that before the release of Superman Returns I would be genuinely curious to know.

And I'm not necessarily saying these kinds of things are an evil. They can be. But in this case I'm very much looking forward to Joaquin Phoenix's Joker.

These are all remakes, not reboots.

I'm not too fond of Phoenix "taking over the role" since Leto is a capable Joker, but just wasn't given enough to do in Suicide Squad...

That said, A. its a standalone film (not going to be connected to the DCEU), B. Phoenix fits the somber and dark mood they're going for with this one...athough I STILL think Leto could've pulled it off, Leto just looks so much YOUNGER (even though he's OLDER..haha...how crazy is that?)

With the exception of the guest few Sean Connery films where there was a "gradually learning about the existence of SPECTRE and Blofeld" plot thread running through them, the James Bond films have always acted as if he previous films in the franchise did not exist.

Jesus! Leto is almost 50! He has aged well.

REBOOT IS JUST A FANCY NEW NAME FOR REMAKE...SAME DAMN THING.

The term reboot has become overused which does make things a bit confusing but...

A remake is a reinterpretation of a specific film. The Cape Fear remake, for example, is Martin Scorsese's spin on the same story as the original.

A reboot is specifically franchise based and starts that franchise again from scratch. It has the same characters but does not have the same story and the film makers have no responsibility to the original piece, it can go completely it's own way. Batman Begins, for example, does not tell the same story as Tim Burton's first Batman film. It's a reinterpretation of the character, not the film.

THEY ARE THE SAME THING.AND THEY ARE BOTH AS OLD AS ORIGINALS.

In serial fiction, a reboot is a new start to an established fictional universe, work, or series that discards all continuity to re-create its characters, plotlines and backstory from the beginning.[1][2] It has been described as a way to "rebrand"[3] or "restart an entertainment universe that has already been established".[1] Another definition of a reboot is a remake which is part of an established film series or other media franchise.[4] The term has been criticised for being a vague and "confusing"[5] "buzzword",[6] and a neologism for remake,[7][8] a concept which has been losing popularity in the 2010s.

Because Leto ruined the joker and nobody wants to bring that back.
