Bad News Won't Leave Henry Cavill Alone as The Witcher Boss Confirms Season 3 Sidelined Him for Another Character

While audiences across the world are still coming to terms with the fact that Henry Cavill will appear in his last season as Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher, information from executive producers Steve Gaub and Tomasz Bagiński hints at a change in the focus of characters which will make Henry Cavill play second fiddle. According to the producers, Freya Allen’s character Ciri will take centerstage in season 3 while Cavill’s Geralt of Rivia and Anya Chalotra’s Yennefer will move to supporting roles.

NX’s idea of a joke. arrow_down Many see it as damage control and a desperate way to boost TW S03’s hv&v numbers.

TW tweet: “Just in case you need a reminder.”

Pics of billboards plastered with the succinct message: "Yes. He's Still Geralt In Season 3."

Why create drama? Why upset Liam’s (LH’s) fans? TW S03’s hv&v numbers don’t matter. TW is getting an S04 and HC won’t be in it.

Outlets are having a field day. rofl

‘The Witcher’ Season 3 Premiere Sees 15% Decrease Versus Season 2 As Audience Wanes Across First 5 Episodes — Samba TV Report

[Keep in mind that Samba looks at households, not hours viewed. The amount of episodes and the total runtime don’t matter. Episode 1 is considered the premiere.]

The first five episodes of Season 3 hit the streamer on June 29. Since then, 1.1M U.S. households have tuned in to the premiere, according to L+5D data from Samba TV. That’s a fairly strong debut, though it is a 15% decrease compared to the 1.3M U.S. households that tuned in to the Season 2 premiere during the same window.

The Witcher Viewership Wanes Amid Ongoing Backlash Surrounding Henry Cavill's Exit

According to Deadline, numbers for the first five episodes of The Witcher Season 3 are down quite a bit vs. the first five episodes of The Witcher Season 2 in new data shared by Samba TV measurements.

The company has revealed that The Witcher Season 3 Episode 1 secured 1.1 million U.S. households in L+5d data.

That number is down from The Witcher Season 2 Episode 1, which managed 1.3 million U.S. households across the same period.

Interestingly, viewership for the remaining four episodes of Season 3 suggests that audiences may not be sticking with the series. Samba measured that about 893,000 households watched Episode 2, and that shrank to 750,000 for Episode 3. For Episode 4, 602,000 households tuned in, while Episode 5 drew less than half the premiere audience with 505,000 U.S. households.

1.100,000 ep 1
0,893,000 ep 2
0,750,000 ep 3
0,602,000 ep 4
0,505,000 ep 5

According to Samba, all eight episodes of Season 2 drew more than 1M U.S. households during their first week of streaming after they debuted in December 2021. Season 1 of The Witcher remains one of Netflix’s most popular TV seasons of all time.

Samba’s data doesn’t tell the whole viewing story, though it does give a pretty good picture of the series’ performance in its first few days of availability. Samba TV doesn’t measure mobile, however, their sample includes a panel of 3 million terrestrial TVs, weighted to the U.S. Census. By contrast, Samba TV’s panel is nearly 100x larger than Nielsen’s household footprint of 45K homes.

Nielsen has yet to report any data for Season 3 of The Witcher. Netflix reported that the first five episodes drew 15.2M views (73M viewing hours divided by a 4 hour and 49 minute runtime) in its first weekend [Thursday to Sunday] on the platform — which easily catapulted it to No. 1 on the streamer’s Top 10 TV list for the week.

‘The Witcher’ Already Dethroned In Netflix’s Top 10 List By A New Show

At one point it seemed like it could have been Netflix’s answer to Game of Thrones. Now, it’s being displaced after a few days on Netflix’s [USA daily] Top 10 list by a stand-up comedy special. The Witcher is not in a great place.

Yes, it’s true that season 3 of The Witcher did debut at the top of Netflix’s [USA daily] Top 10 list after it launched, but it didn’t even last a full week there [6 days], despite extremely minimal competition. The other top-placing shows on the list have been Suits after a move to Netflix syndication, a documentary about American Gladiators and season 2 of Idiocracy-adjacent series Is It Cake?

Now, The Witcher has been dethroned by Tom Segura: Sledgehammer a one hour comedy special.

Of course, many people are ditching the show because they know it’s about to lose Henry Cavill as Geralt, who will be replaced by Liam Hemsworth in the already-renewed seasons 4 and 5. This led Netflix to produce a hard-to-believe tweet on the official Witcher account which advertised a (fake) ad campaign that reads “Yes, he’s still Geralt in season 3 of The Witcher.”

It’s meant to be a funny joke but it comes off as desperate for viewership, plus it is 100% completely dunking on Liam Hemsworth, the poor guy who didn’t ask for any of this, as acknowledgement from the official account that everyone wants Cavill and no one wants him. I predict viewership for seasons 4 and 5 is going to be disastrous.

It’s really hard to believe how much this show has fallen after a shockingly good debut with high watch numbers and satisfied fans who mostly approved of the series and especially Cavill’s turn as Geralt. Now, mismanagement of Cavill causing him to leave and departures from the source material have turned it into…this. It’s probably one of the biggest mistakes I’ve seen Netflix make.

Season 1 of The Witcher had an inverse critic swing, 68% from critics, okay not great, but a surprisingly good 89% from fans, especially fans who were bound to be more harsh than usual given their connection to the books and video games, and skepticism of the project in general.

Season 2 is where things started to unravel. Despite a very high 95% from critics, fans, along with Henry Cavill it seems, did not appreciate changes from the books, and the score dropped to a 57%.

Now? Season 3, again, is reviewing well with critics at an 85%, but fans are reaching rock bottom. A 33% is one of the lowest audience scores for a major production on Netflix I can remember seeing. We are getting close to Resident Evil 26% territory, which was one of the worst. Even “bad” shows rarely get this low on the audience side.

Usually review bombing can have its roots in racism or sexism for projects like this, but this is not in that realm, and is instead about Netflix fumbling Cavill and causing him to want to leave.

Netflix Equips The Witcher With $319 Million Budget

Blood Origin was also made by a British company - this time called Ripper Productions - and its financial statements for the year to September 30 2021 show that its costs came to $50.3 million (£37.3 million) with $10 million (£7.4 million) coming in from the reimbursement. At only two and a half hours long, its costs came to a staggering $20 million per hour and this is likely to rise as it doesn't even include the cost of post-production on Blood Origin which began in November 2021.

Hear me, NX showrunners! Plummeting hv&v numbers is what you should aim for when your show cost a whopping $20M per hour. And don’t forget to piss off your fan base so NX will renew your show and give you spin-offs just to show them that they stand behind you.

The Flash May Lose WB $200 Million After Box Office Flop

According to Luiz Fernando, the film is estimated to earn $280-310 million globally in its theatrical run. When pitted against The Flash’s $200-220 million production budget, $150 million in marketing, and the fact that studios don’t take all of their box office haul, the movie may lose $200 million for Warner Bros.

WBD*cks won’t lose just $200M if it only makes $310M. The theaters keep like 50% and China like 75%. It must reach like $700M to BE. So that’s not just $200M in the red.

Forbes

‘The Flash’ On Target For Disastrous $300 Million Global Total

But this means WBD and DC Studios had better be paying close attention to an enormous red flag — the Batman brand is tainted again, and audiences can no longer be counted on to deliver at least baseline blockbuster sales for Batman’s live-action appearances. We’ve been in this place once before, of course, with 1997’s Batman & Robin, so it looks like someone has now set an unfortunate Batman movie record.

At this point, there’s no good argument to retain any part of the DCEU for the live action cinematic future. […] but when audiences are shrugging off Batman, you’ve broken your brand.

This is the second time that BM is thrown into a film to save it and he doesn’t. The first time, BM took over MOS2 and it turned into the crap known as BvS. Now, two BMs took over TF and it turned into a crappy CBM that’s about to become the biggest CBM flop of all time.

Lesson learned: Batman should NOT be used to save the Box Office of another film, because it will doom it. Batman works in a Batman film.

The heads of WBD*ck are very slow, though. I don’t expect their dumdarses to learn crap.

So, at 289 minutes long, S03 should have ended with at least 90,670,000 hv if it had a 3-day OW like S02. S03’s 4-day 73,000,000 hv is way too low. A 3-day OW would be even lower and NX may have over 10M more subs now.

You’re going full nerd on those numbers. Did anybody think S03 is a success?

I left it in, because a JG minion said that JG said that it was released illegally in Russia.

I think a JG minion.

It’s official, ZS has stans and JG has minions. laughing

TW tweet: “Just in case you need a reminder.”

Pics of billboards plastered with the succinct message: "Yes. He's Still Geralt In Season 3."

The joke should have been: Just in case you need a reminder. Yes, she’s the showrunner of Season 3. I’m sure NX subs will drop everything to go watch the masterpiece from the mastermind. laughing

More scandal. Tenoch Huerta… the actor that plays Namor in BlackP2… is accused of being a violent sexual predator. WTH is wrong with these men?

I thought women were afraid of accusing Hollywood men because they were afraid to lose jobs etc. But this Tenoch Huerta isn’t a Hollywood man with clout. Why is this woman coming forward now that his star is rising? Kind of the same with Jonathan Majors. He recently seems to have done something to a woman and the police should investigate that. But a lot of other women from his past are coming forward with awful stories about him. But why didn’t they go to the police after it happened? He wasn’t a man with clout? Were they physically afraid of him or the police wouldn’t care about complaining women?

I won’t sub for ST5. That’s the last season. HV&V won’t matter. I’ll sub one month for Wednesday, Sandman and S&B… if NX renews it. I’ll stay sub for three months if there’s an EH3 and HC’s in it.

Sounds like a good plan, but I’m not sure I’ll do it. I believe in paying, but NX really rubbed me up the wrong way. Why be a decent human being to a shady organization? Word is that NX wants to have some very expensive titles just to say that it, too, has expensive titles. All for “prestige” or some crap like that. So it will sacrifice other projects to keep expensive crap like TW.

Renewing TW S02 before S01 premiered was a huge gamble that thankfully paid off. Renewing TW S03 before S02 premiered was a huge gamble that isn’t paying off. Unlike S02, the big red flags were there when NX renewed S03. The flags have gotten bigger and brighter. But here comes NX and renews that very expensive crappy show and cancels others or leaves them in limbo. And OMG, the insistence of going “all the way through” despite the plummeting hv&v. Add the very sus quick changes to the hv&v system, too. Nah, screw NX. I’ll keep my money.

I didn’t believe the geeks’ boycott talk, but I think I do now that TF flopped too.

I feel like everything’s flopping. Am I feeling that because we’re discussing the BO more now or was it always that way? Of the top of my head, only Spidey-V2 and GOTG3 didn’t flop.

He seems to support guns, hunting but is against LGBTQ+.

I heard that. So nothing else new?

Some think VD must be blaming Jason Momoa for FX’s poor BO numbers.

China was F&F’s biggest market. But Chinese butts are very sensitive, nowadays. They haven’t forgotten that JM accused them of killing the sea.

Some say that AM was JM’s only success. Yes… he was in it. But IMO, AM’ success was thanks to JW.

Exactly. China contributed $300+ to AM’s BO and that was thx to JW. I wouldn’t count on that for AM2, though. Chinese geeks still remember what JM did. And then there’s the whole Amber Heard thing. Geeks are mostly males and they’re angry that JD was fired by WB after losing the case in some British trial, but WB kept AH after she lost the case in a US trial. They’re both Americans. The US trial was the real trial.

That will haunt those two flaccid old dicks. joy

Dumarse is my go-to word. But that’s perfect. He’s part of WBD*ck.

Seriously, who or… what did they give their arses to to become the head of a film studio? I wouldn’t let those two maggots-for-brains idiots be the head of a preschool LEGO project team.

They’re like reckless kids. They don’t think before they act. They seem unable to foresee possible consequences that are very foreseeable.

That’s weird… All the old seasons of popular shows tend to be in the WT-10 when a new season is released.

He asked if we should compare 1956’s Ten Commandments with 2014’s Exodus: Gods And Kings etc. According to him, those old films made a lot, because there was no competition.

Really? A lot of people could afford a ticket and reach a theater?

You can have a potty mouth, you know that? rofl

Come on… me and JG go way back. Way back to November 2022. He’d appreciate being part of a d*ck joke. Geeks say he likes potty humor and d*ck jokes. I know he likes pedo jokes. rolling_eyes

Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman Show Off Their 'Deadpool 3' Costumes in New Set Photos

The photos show Reynolds completely immersed in his red-and-black Deadpool costume, while Jackman appears as his longtime X-Men series lead Logan / Wolverine in a bright yellow jumpsuit with blue accents. In one snapshot, Jackman donned sunglasses and could be seen smiling as he and Reynolds chatted, while another image showcased Logan getting angry — with CGI claws presumably on the way.

The new Wolverine look shows off a costume that more closely resembles the character's comic book origins than what Jackman often wore across his past nine onscreen appearances as the character.

The third Deadpool movie began production in London in May, as The Hollywood Reporter reported at the time. It expects to mark the title character's full introduction into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as well as Reynolds and Jackman's first time working together within a Marvel movie since Reynolds appeared as a different version of Deadpool in 2009's X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

The pair have also asserted that Wolverine's next on-screen appearance will not jeopardize the character's arc in past movies, which ended with Logan's death in the Oscar-nominated Logan.

"Logan takes place in 2029, totally separate thing," Reynolds said in a video about the movie shared in September. "Logan died in Logan. Not touching that."

The next Deadpool movie will also feature another face from Marvel movies of the past, as a source confirmed to PEOPLE last Friday that Jennifer Garner will play Elektra in the forthcoming film. Garner, 51, previously portrayed the character in 2003's Daredevil opposite now-ex-husband Ben Affleck and again later in a 2005 standalone film.

The next Deadpool entry is directed by Shawn Levy, who worked with Garner and Reynolds on the Netflix movie The Adam Project and also directed Reynolds' 2021 film Free Guy.

Deadpool 3 is expected in theaters May 3, 2024.

The other top-placing shows on the list have been Suits after a move to Netflix syndication, a documentary about American Gladiators and season 2 of Idiocracy-adjacent series Is It Cake?

The same thing this week. TW S03 is #1 again, but the competition was very weak again. Certain titles have fewer days, shorter runtime and/or have already been several weeks in the WT-10.

  1. 4:49 – 66.5M – 13.8M – The Witcher – S03 – fantasy drama series – 7 days (06/29/2023)
  2. 4:14 – 31.4M – 07.4M – The Lincoln Lawyer – S02 – legal drama series – Thursday (4 days)
  3. 1:02 – 04.6M – 04.5M – Tom Segura: Sledgehammer – stand-up comedy special – Wednesday (5 days)
  4. 5:52 – 23.7M – 04.0M – Is It Cake, Too? – game show style cooking competition – 7 days (06/30/2023)
  5. 5:12 – 16.7M – 03.2M – Black Mirror – S06 – anthology series – 7 days/4th week in the WT-10
  6. 8:00 – 20.9M – 02.6M – TW S01
  7. 7:41 – 18.2M – 02.4M – TW S02

Wow! NX must be popping the champagne corks, because TW S03 got 66.5M & 13.8M hv&v in its first whole week. What an achievement. They must be ecstatic. That’s less hv&v than its 73M & 15.2M 4-day OW. Marvelous! That’s what showrunners of NX $319M franchises should aim for to get renewed and spin-offs. And to think we had sleepless nights when S02’s first whole week had just 168.5M & 22M hv&v.

Triks probably wet her undies whenever she sees numbers and has something to calculate. So I’ll let her calculate S03’s 289m vs S02’s 460m runtime for the first week’s hv&v. BTW, Triks, NX provides the runtime now and round to 100K. And you should round the percentage to a whole number to keep it simple. Go nuts (re)calculating.

WBD drama continues.

HomeCelebrity ‘Blue Beetle’ Director Deletes Tweet Wishing Assassination On President Donald Trump, Claims Puerto Rico Is A “Slave Colony”

Blue Beetle director Ángel Manuel Soto recently deleted a tweet where he he hoped that President Donald Trump would be assassinated like President Abraham Lincoln.

In a tweet from August 7th, 2018, Soto wrote, “The only thing I hope Trump has similar to Lincoln’s presidency is the way it ended.”

The tweet was still live on Twitter as of last night, but after Lofti Pixels shared the tweet to his account it appears Soto deleted the tweet. Twitter user Cottees reported the tweet was deleted sometime in the middle of the night around 3:49 AM on April 4, 2023.

The deletion of the tweet not only came after Lofti Pixels shared it to social media, but came after Soto was criticized for including George Lopez’s “Batman is a fascist” line at the end of the Blue Beetle trailer.

Not only did Soto previously hope for the assassination of Donald Trump, but he also claimed that Puerto Rico is a “slave colony.”

He tweeted back in August 2018, “[You must be the dumbest piece of sh*t to cross twitter, right after Trump. How stupid can you be?] Puerto Rico is a slave colony of the USA. Your passport was impossed on us, so there is nowhere else to go after your country sh*ts on my land and blame us for the stink. F*ck you.”

‘Blue Beetle’ Director Completely Changes Tune, Asks Moviegoers To Give Film A Chance After Mocking Them Over “Batman’s A Fascist” Line

In the first trailer, it ended with George Lopez’s Uncle Rudy remarking, “Batman is a fascist.”

Numerous individuals took exception to the line with YouTuber Ryan Kinel criticizing it […]

Kinel’s criticism would be shared to Twitter by CBMovieFan who wrote, “George Lopez saying “Batman is a Fascist” has this mf riled up”

The user added, “I need more lines like that from the movie if they’re freaking out like this.”

Soto responded to the tweet with three laughing emojis and a Skeletor gif that reads, “Well, my job’s done.”

Soto would use a similar gif in response to another user pointing out that certain people were upset about the inclusion of the “Batman’s a fascist” line in the trailer.

Instead of Skeletor he used one of President Barack Obama dropping a microphone. He captioned it, “My job here is done.”

Now in an interview with MovieMaker, Soto is asking fans to give him and the film a chance. First, he attempted to explain the scene, “We always wanted to have fun with the way Rudy talks about other superheroes.”

He continued, “So to the people who got mad at it, give us a chance. We’re just trying to have fun with the characters that we love. And everybody in our movie loves Batman and Superman and Flash.”

“And of course, we have criticisms about all of them, as we all should,” Soto added. “But that doesn’t mean that we hate Batman. We love Batman.”

The film’s star Xolo Maridueña also shared his thoughts on the criticism to Lopez’s character describing Batman as a fascist, “F That!”

He elaborated, “Maybe Jaime and the audience don’t agree with Rudy, but you’re allowed to have your opinion. That’s okay.”

Maridueña then insinuated the line was included to rile up viewers, “If you felt some type of way about it, that was the point. So I think if you agree with it, if you don’t agree with it, it was placed there for a reason. And you know, all of the people who have their Batman shrines at home can keep them there and they don’t have to worry.”

Despite what Soto is saying now, his initial reaction is more than likely what he truly believes and he’s changed his tune because he’s seen box office bomb after box office bomb this year for DC films at the box office.

His job as a director might not be safe in James Gunn’s new plans for the DC Universe. Gunn has made it clear that the character of Blue Beetle is part of the DC Universe, but has not commented on whether the film is actually part of the DC Universe.

When Gunn first announced his DC Universe slate he said, “And then to move into a Blue Beetle, a fantastic film about a kid who is a marvelous part of the DCU.”

More recently speaking with Michael Rosenbaum, Gunn said, “The first DCU character, for sure, is Blue Beetle, and the first full DCU movie is Superman.”

Of note, Gunn says the character of Blue Beetle is the first DCU character, but that Superman: Legacy is the first DCU film. So the Blue Beetle film does not appear to be actually part of the DCU.

It’s also interesting that Maridueña seemingly had no qualms insinuating the line was done on purpose to provoke a reaction one way or the other. At least he had the stones to commit to what they did.

Something that Soto clearly did not do.

You’re going full nerd on those numbers. Did anybody think S03 is a success?

Yes, there were/are a few who think it is, because it’s #1 in the Global Weekly Top 10 (GWT-10). They forget how expensive the show is and that NX has more than 10M more subs now. Perhaps being #1 is one of the mysterious variables to measure success. It doesn’t matter how low the hv&v is. That would be very odd. thinking

Well, good news, S01 and S02 are in the WT-10 now, but the extremely low hv&v trend continues.

Bad news again. S01 and S02 are out of the GWT-10.

14,200,000hv – 1,800,000v – S01 – #06 – Week before S02 premiered
49,200,000hv – 6,100,000v – S01 – #02 – S02 released on Friday
60,700,000hv – 7,600,000v – S01 – #03 – S02’s first whole week
42,900,000hv – 5,600,000v – S01 – #04 – S02’s second whole week (42,890,000hv)

That’s less hv&v than its 73M & 15.2M 4-day OW.

TBH, I don’t remember ever seeing that for a big/popular title. I’m almost sure the first whole week always has more hv than the OW. thinking The Lincoln Lawyer’s first week has more hv&v than the OW.

That’s what showrunners of NX $319M franchises should aim for to get renewed and spin-offs.

Something to rile you up even more. The $319M doesn’t include S03 and TW:NOTW. stuck_out_tongue

$092.1M – S01 (8 eps, 8:00)

rofl

You could have just said recalculate without the wet undies part, you know? I’m not a fan of number crunching, but the fun on SHM and TFT is ruined by the back and forth on whether or not a title/IP is a success. Before TW S03, it was Spidey-V1. The numbers are on TN, BOM, NX, but they ignore them. Many times, a little math and/or posting the numbers in a table will end the back and forth.

Anyway, I recalculate without wetting my undies. Hopefully I didn’t forget a zero or something. Do something useful and double check. angry

BTW, Triks, NX provides the runtime now and round to 100K. And you should round the percentage to a whole number to keep it simple.

I used the runtime (454m) that was calculated when S02 was released. Now NX says it’s 7:41 or 461m. Oh, the new metric is views (v), not the hours viewed (hv). NX changed the whole hv&v system. The % isn’t necessary. S03’s 289m runtime is 63% of S02’s 461m runtime, though.

S02’s OW had 142,40,000hv (142,430,000hv.)

S03 – #1 – 289m – 073,000,000hv – 15,200,000v – Thursday – 18% drop
S02 – #1 – 461m – 142,400,000hv – 18,500,000v – Friday

S02’s first week had 168,500,000 (168,460,000hv).

S03 – #1 – 289m – 066,500,000hv – 13,800,000v – 37% drop
S02 – #1 – 461m – 168,500,000hv – 21,900,000v

S02’s second week had 94,300,000hv (94,270,000hv).

S03 – #2 – 289m – 32,100,000hv – 06,700,000v – 46% drop

Early Barbie Reviews Look Suspiciously Similar to The Flash's

Those who came to the movie’s recent premiere in Los Angeles are sharing their thoughts as we write, and we’re almost confused at how identical the reviews are: everyone is praising Greta Gerwig’s new film. We are yet to see a single negative review, and this has us on somewhat of an alert.

The overwhelming praise for Barbie is great for its upcoming release and seems deserved after everything we’ve learned about the production process and the setting of the movie — but it reminds us all too much about a very similar case that only happened one month ago or so, The Flash … Which turned out to be a disaster.

It’s admittedly too early to judge since Barbie doesn’t have the tell-tale signs of a dud that Ezra Miller ’s movie had, but the insane marketing effort, overwhelming early viewer praise, and the increasing “best movie ever”-type hype are all there right now.

Perri Nemiroff, who’s largely known as Positive Perri, shared the only review that stands out: despite calling the movie great and “incredible,” he also points out some flaws of Barbie and points out that he has “mixed” feelings about some aspects of it.

“[I have seen #Barbie! The craftsmanship is incredible. In particular the costume & production design includes next-level work that heavily contributes to creating the feeling that these truly are Barbies, their dream houses, and their worlds come to life.]
”As for the story, that’s where I’m a bit more mixed. I think the film serves Margot Robbie’s Barbie and her journey especially well, but there are other characters experiencing important arcs that needed more screen time to really dig into and explore to the fullest. Overall, Barbie isn’t the home run I was hoping for, or that I think it needs to be given the topics it’s tackling,” Nemiroff wrote on his Twitter.

In the comments, quite a few people agreed that it was the only review that “didn’t feel AI-generated,” and the fact that it was mixed had them alerted.

‘Barbie’ banned in Vietnam over “Chinese propaganda”

Indeed, screenings of Gerwig’s upcoming movie have been banned in Vietnam due to the inclusion of the “nine dash line map” depicting islands in the South China Sea as being controlled by Beijing. Vietnam's state media have reported that the government banned distribution of Barbie because of the inclusion of the map showing disputed Chinese territorial claims in the South China Sea.

The newspaper Vietnam Express and other media said posters advertising Barbie were removed from movie distributors’ websites after the decision.

It said a map in the film shows China’s “nine-dash line,” which extends Beijing’s territorial claims far into waters that fall within areas claimed by Vietnam and other countries.

An international court ruled in 2016 that the “nine-dash line” has no basis in law and the Philippines was entitled to an exclusive economic zone in part of the area claimed by Beijing. China rejected the ruling.

China says the vast majority of the South China Sea lies within its “nine-dash line,” which it uses to demarcate what it considers its maritime border. That has brought it into tense standoffs with the ASEAN nations of Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Brunei and the Philippines, with Chinese fishing boats and military vessels becoming more aggressive in the disputed waters.

Warner Bros' Barbie is not the only production to be banned by Vietnam for featuring the nine-dash line.

The issue now is that more countries could follow suit, as Brunei, Indonesia, the Philippines and Taiwan could ban the film, as they all have competing claims in the South China Sea. Malaysia has already ordered the scene to be cut from the movie.

Is Barbie Banned in The UAE?

The release date for this highly anticipated blockbuster has been pushed back from July 20 to August 31.

Although nothing has been stated about the release apart from the date, many previously banned movies have followed the same patterns, causing fans to lose control.

The Barbie movie has already been facing the threat of unreleased by other countries around the world and has already been banned by Vietnam for the inclusion of a map that shares ‘disputed Chinese territorial claims in the South China Sea.’ Potentially causing a domino effect within other countries in the region like Brunei, The Philippines, Indonesia and Taiwan.

Currently, the uproar is completely speculative as there has been no further information except the delayed release date. However, the movie is said to highlight ideas that violate the standards of the region. Therefore, if previous patterns are indicators, we could be looking at a Barbie-less summer in the Middle East.

WTH is in the Barbie film? I also read that Christians in the US are calling for a boycott. That’s on top of the Americans that see the nine-dash line in Barbie as Chinese propaganda.

Jared Leto Terrifies as The Hatbox Ghost in New 'Haunted Mansion' Teaser [Releasing on July 28th]

Spooky season arrives early this year as Disney’s Haunted Mansion is slated to be released later this summer. As tickets for the upcoming horror comedy go on sale, the official Disney Twitter account has revealed a brand-new teaser for the film, showcasing a terrifying journey through a house of ghostly horrors.

The teaser features brand-new footage of Jared Leto as the Hatbox Ghost, a classic character from the original ride, now with a creepier upgrade. Given what has been showcased in the trailers so far, the mysterious phantom is shaping up to be a potentially memorable villain with his unique design and haunting voice.

https://collider.com/haunted-mansion-teaser-jared-leto-hatbox-ghost/

‘Haunted Mansion’ Makes The Hatbox Ghost More Than Just Another Happy Haunt

Despite The Hatbox Ghost's popularity, the ghost has never had an actual backstory, despite the character's "birth" in 1969, but all of that is about to change.

The history of The Hatbox Ghost is as fascinating as it is niche, and it has become a subject of interest among many Disney enthusiasts. It was conceived as an eerie, unsettling figure that would add an extra scare to the Haunted Mansion attraction when it first opened at Disneyland Park in California in 1969. The film's director, Justin Simien, who will appear at Collider's "Directors on Directing" Panel in Hall H at this year's San Diego Comic-Con, recently sat down with Perri Nemiroff to discuss, among many things, working with Leto in order to come up with where the character had come from, his motivations, and just what kind of life he may have lived.

The initial design featured a ghostly figure holding a hatbox in one hand and a head in the other but was removed for technical issues soon after. The illusion was meant to show the Hatbox Ghost's head disappearing from its body and reappearing inside the hatbox. However, due to lighting and timing problems, the effect did not work well and so the Hatbox Ghost said goodbye almost as soon as he arrived, without even getting a name. Simien spoke to this piece of lore, explaining:

"First of all, when we first started talking about the character, we had a real in-depth series of conversations about where this guy is from, what he is thinking. Because he starts off as a visual sight gag on this ride that doesn’t even have a name. Eventually, fans start calling him The Hatbox Ghost, and now he’s canon."

Simien went on to explain that Leto wanted to find an accent and a personality for the ghost, even going so far as to develop how he would treat others, being petty and playing tricks, and losing himself in the voice role to the point that some may struggle to even recognize him. He explained:

"So you have some things to go off of but not really a lot else, you know? Down to not just the accent but the way in which he savors certain kinds of words, we came up with a character that really does delight in putting people down and being as petty as possible, and doing so in the most elaborate fashion. So, we had a lot of fun. We played with the dialogue that we had, but we just played. There were long stretches of Jared just talking. As we’re trying to figure out, “Well, how does he laugh? What does he make fun of about people? What are his favorite syllables?” We spent a lot of time in the weeds on that and I think it really shows. I mean, you would never know it was Jared Leto unless someone told you. That’s how complete a character it is. It’s really thoughtful and delightful, and I thought it was really fun."

Despite its brief appearance, The Hatbox Ghost gained a cult following among Disney fans. Various legends and stories circulated about the ghost, and its fleeting appearance created an air of mystery and intrigue as generations came and went. The Hatbox Ghost became a sort of urban legend among Haunted Mansion enthusiasts, adding to its mythos.

In 2015, however, Disneyland announced the return of the Hatbox Ghost to the Haunted Mansion. With advancements in technology, the updated version of the Hatbox Ghost was able to achieve the intended effect flawlessly. The Hatbox Ghost has become an iconic and beloved part of Disneyland's Haunted Mansion lore. Its history, removal, and eventual return have contributed to the character's mystique, making it a cherished part of Disney Park history.

Of all fandoms, that fool decided to piss off the biggest subfandom of the DC fandom. All I can say is… well… it didn’t end well for DJ’s BA film.

Oh, the new metric is views (v), not the hours viewed (hv).

Finally. That makes it easier for a one hour show (out 5 days) to beat a five hour show (out 7 days).

NX changed the whole hv&v system.

THR: “We believe sharing this engagement data on a regular basis helps talent and the broader industry understand what success looks like on Netflix — and we hope that other streamers become more transparent about engagement on their services over time,” the company wrote.
The statement is sure to raise eyebrows among WGA and SAG members, who have called for more transparency from streaming services, and have found Netflix’s disclosures to not meet the bar.

It doesn’t meet the bar. NX doesn’t mention how they deal with repeat viewing in the methodology. I guess… all repeat viewing are included in the hv. Nobody knows how many subs really watched a title. The previous two minutes metric was ridiculous.

Repeat viewing is good for theaters, because you buy a ticket each time. For streamers… well… it shows what kind of titles subs like or… support for some reason. I say support for some reason because I only watch TW multiple times for HC. I don’t like that kind of show. So… assuming I want more of that kind of show is… wrong. NX should hold polls to know why a sub watches a title or ask subs what kind of content they like blah, blah.

Anyway… you pay for a month and watch the same title every day in a loop. Do all those repeat hv make something really a success? I don’t think so. Then… the 91 days. Titles start big and then disappear from the GWT-10. Transparency, but we don’t get all the data.

Comicbookmovie.com: Following reports last week that DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn with write and direct Superman: Legacy, the filmmaker has now confirmed he will indeed step behind the camera of the upcoming DCU reboot…

JG saved that for when ZS made his announcement. As the co-CEO of DCS, he had to give ZS permission to use the films. So he can’t pretend like he didn’t know.

And like ZS, he needed a sad story too. The only difference is that ZS’ sad story isn’t used for pitiful sympathy, like he decided to use his daddy issues. Who understands perverts? His father probably knew he’ll be a pedophile. Who can understand adults who think that child abuse is funny?

Word is that Margot Robbie will be Sue Storm in F4. WTH?

I read they wanted Emma Stone. That’s just nuts. She’s Gwen Stacy in Spidey and Disney’s Cruella.

Yeah, take a break. Thanos CGI’ed arse was more interesting than this Kang guy.

Speaking to EW the filmmaker raved about the actor’s eerily convincing performance; bringing the Disneyland character alive on screen.

"It's very surprising. You'd be shocked to know who it was until you're told," filmmaker Justin Simien … exclusively tells EW of Leto's metamorphosis into the Hatbox Ghost … "The character itself, it's part digital, part physical performance. We're trying to go for something scary that feels like it could exist physically in the real world, on the ride, but pushes the scare a lot further than the ride does. He knocked it out of the park. He's very menacing and terrifying."

Of course, let’s push the character played by a white guy to the front. All talk I see about Haunted M is about the Hatbox Ghost. If you don’t know the Haunted M story, you’d think it’s about the Hatbox Ghost.

Disney is forcing his woke agenda to the point that it has become annoying and ridiculous. Has anybody seen the cheap-looking pics of the new Snow White film? OMG!

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-12298801/EXCLUSIVE-Snow-White-Seven-Politically-Correct-Companions.html

Why didn’t they cast a POC to play the Hatbox Ghost if they’re going to use it to promote the film about a black woman and her son?

I like JL. Like all fans, I think he’ll do a great job. His haters think casting a creep like him to play a creep is perfect. So win-win. Good for him. It’s not his fault that Disney is using his character to promote the film. Heck, I won’t even say he shouldn’t have auditioned for the role or he should have turned it down if it was offered to him. Disney is so eager to be woke, right? Then, only POCs should audition or be offered the role. This was the perfect opportunity to be woke without it looking forced.

I wouldn’t do another Hobbs film, if I was DJ.

Another flop after BA would be horrible. But DJ likes to milk something. Stop while on top isn’t an option. The show Young Rock got canceled.

Warner Bros.’ Quest to Build a Better ‘Aquaman’ Sequel: 3 Reshoots, Two Batmans and Non-Stop Test Screenings

The sequel to Warner Bros.’ 2018 DC movie is coming off a round of reshoots that occurred in New Zealand in mid-June and involved stars including Jason Momoa and Patrick Wilson, according to multiple sources.

This is the third round of reshoots for the movie, directed by James Wan. That is almost an unprecedented number, even for a movie of this scale.

Lost Kingdom has faced several headwinds as it swims toward a Dec. 20 release date. It was postponed several times (it originally was due to bow in December 2022), and like its DC movie brother The Flash, its making has now spanned three regimes at Warners.

The movie was greenlit under the Warners regime led by former film boss Toby Emmerich and his lieutenant, DC Films head Walter Hamada, as a sequel to Aquaman, which proved to be a surprise hit and stands as the highest-grossing DC movie of all time with $1.148 billion.

Principal photography wrapped in January 2022, but by summer, Emmerich was out (Hamada soon followed), both casualties of the merger that created Warner Bros. Discovery.

The movie was in the middle of postproduction and beginning test screenings that summer. While a timeline is not clear, from summer 2022 to the beginning of 2023, The Lost Kingdom underwent two rounds of reshoots and held several uninspiring test screenings.

After one round of test screenings, new Warners film bosses Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy got involved, as they were running point on DC until Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav could find a permanent DC boss to replace Hamada. Sources say that in the fall, Abdy took a strong creative stance and got involved in the editing of one cut. However, when that version tested, it scored lower than the previous version. That led to another round of reshoots.

Different visions of executives notwithstanding, it is unclear what the problems were, but one insider said the issue of story clarity has been an ongoing concern.

Also a concern: Batman.

Hamada wanted Michael Keaton’s version of the character to be akin to Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury in the Marvel movies — an elder statesman who could pop up in various films, including the now-shelved Batgirl, as well as The Lost Kingdom. But shifting release dates muddled things. At one point, The Lost Kingdom was set to open in March 2023, several months before Keaton’s return in June 2023’s The Flash. So in late July 2022, two months after Abdy and De Luca took over Warners, Ben Affleck joined a round of reshoots as Bruce Wayne, to replace a scene Keaton shot. But then the movie was moved again, this time to after Flash, putting Affleck’s appearance in question. The latest cut of the film features neither version of the Dark Knight, according to sources, as new DC heads James Gunn and Peter Safran do not want to promise a movie universe that will not come to fruition, nor tie it down excessively to past failures. “It was pretty chaotic,” said one source.

(And some of the chaos may not have been the studio’s or filmmakers’ fault. Some of the calendar moves were due to overloaded visual effects houses, a phenomenon that occurred during the pandemic and that affected both Flash and Lost Kingdom, causing a cascade of release date pushes.)

More test screenings of cuts occurred in February, and again in April. By this time, Safran, a producer on the first Aquaman as well as The Lost Kingdom, had become co-head of the newly created DC Studios, along with Gunn.

Gunn is said to have weighed in on the most recent cut, and the leadership approved a five-day shoot. Sources say the shoot went so well that Wan and company completed what they needed in only four.

Lost Kingdom is already an expensive production. It was greenlit at a $205 million budget and shot during the pandemic, which was a burdensome expense on tentpole productions. Additionally, every frame of the movie involves visual effects, another major cost. The reshoots have only raised that overall budget.

JG confirms and debunks rumors almost as soon as they appear.

He said he won’t do that anymore, but he confirmed the casting of six characters in his SM film. He also quickly dismissed having anything to do with the inclusion of his wife’s character in the comics. Of course, the minions up his arse and his so-called friends kissing his arse will believe him.

The Rage: So in other words, @JamesGunn is having you add Emilia into the comics so that He can cast his wife in the new Batman film with no questions asked (cos it would be comic lore) 🤔 I don’t think so. I’m so out of this DCU.

JG: I found out about it ten minutes ago because Rob DM’d me about it and DM’d me this beautiful cover by Marguerite Savauge for issue #6.

The white-haired b*tch has a big enough clit to dismiss that. Unfortunately, that clit didn’t grow into a d *ck, so he can stop being a b*tch and be a man and confirm or dismiss what GG said about WW3. The d*ckless weasel lets the trades or his minions do his dirty work for him. rolling_eyes

When Batmen Fly: Hey James, now that you’re back to your “debunking era” could you talk about why there’s no Wonder Woman movie in development?

Fry: I could answer this one for you. It's because there isn't a need for a third Wonder Woman movie at this time, plus Gal is (ideally) not returning so they need to find a new WW actress to take up the mantle.

I read they wanted Emma Stone. That’s just nuts. She’s Gwen Stacy in Spidey and Disney’s Cruella.

I read Vanessa Kirby got it. clap

Box Office: ‘Blue Beetle’ Stumbles With $25 Million Debut, Ends ‘Barbie’s’ Four-Week Streak

“Blue Beetle” has dethroned “Barbie” at the domestic box office. The latest DC superhero adventure claimed the No. 1 spot despite a softer-than-expected debut of $25.4 million.

At the international box office, “Blue Beetle,” starring Xolo Maridueña as the alien symbiote, added $18 million from 63 markets. With $43 million globally, it’s one of the softest starts in the history of the DC Cinematic Universe.

Reviews and word of mouth may not do much to fill seats; the film has a “B+” CinemaScore and 77% on Rotten Tomatoes.

‘Blue Beetle’ Lands At $25M+; ‘Strays’ Goes To The Dogs With $8M+ – Sunday Box Office Update

Even though this weekend’s new entries – Warner Bros/DC’s Blue Beetle and Universal’s Strays – aren’t coming in at the top of their projections, with respective lower weekends of $25.4M and $8.3M, the overall health of the theatrical business is still in good shape.

After making $10M on Friday, Blue Beetle eased 15% on Saturday for $8.5M; which indicates front-loading.

Why the under-delivery here on Blue Beetle? Even at $30M, that isn’t a big enough start for this $104M production. The movie gets a B+ CinemaScore overall, which explains it all.

However, the result here for Blue Beetle isn’t shocking next to other Latino and Hispanic fueled action pics, i.e. Alita: Battle Angel ($28.5M 3-day), Spy Kids ($26.5M), and the R-rated Once Upon a Time in Mexico ($23.4M) — all unadjusted for inflation.

Why wasn’t this movie even strutted at San Diego Comic-Con?

There was buzz that Warners had Hall H cobooked with Legendary for a Blue Beetle-Dune: Part Two combo. But still, even sans stars, how much does it cost for a studio to rent two movie auditoriums, popcorn and soda, and two-night hotel accommodations for a director so that the movie can be shown off to fans and screamed across social media? Warners opted to focus more of their marketing on the Latino and Hispanic marketplace (during early August, iSpot saw that Univision was pulling in a bulk of the ad impressions on Blue Beetle at 11%, with studio spending on such shows as Eternamente amándonos (2.6%).

Social media stat firm RelishMix says that Blue Beetle‘s social media reach of 462.5M across Facebook, Twitter/X, YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok are 14% under superhero genre norms. Heck, the social media reach of The Flash was higher at 670.5M. Still, RelishMix says that “the cast has handed over buzz-making duties to fans, who have posted and re-posted materials at a rate of 81:1 on YouTube and 137K fans on official pages.”

In addition, much like what we saw with Shazam: Fury of the Gods, which crashed with a $30M start, the loudspeaker of the new DC Universe under James Gunn and Peter Safran has stolen thunder from the current slate of previously Walter Hamada-hatched DC projects.

Still, Gunn has been supportive of Blue Beetle on social, retweeting ads and saying that the protag will be an essential part of the new DC going forward.

Still, you can always tell how much a studio supports a movie when it comes to the number of one-sheets they print up, and Blue Beetle touted 11 next to a paltry four from Universal’s Strays.

Weird that JG's comic book (re)tweets are able to make these things (that nobody can verify how many issues were sold) sell out, but his film promo (re)tweets can’t help turn a DC film into a BO success. Oh, wait, everybody can see a film's BO numbers on TN or BOM. They're hard to fake or hide.

What about the Barbie film? Freaking annoying! I can’t see myself watching that film. I had trouble watching the trailer.

Singing, dancing and comedy. Yeah, annoying.

Disney is forcing his woke agenda to the point that it has become annoying and ridiculous. Has anybody seen the cheap-looking pics of the new Snow White film? OMG!

Lately, everything from Disney looks cheap. The Marvels film doesn’t look like a film for theater. I think that Disney is so eager to create Marvel shows for D+ that they don’t know the difference between a TV/streaming film and a film for theaters anymore.

They want to make JG look like he can make things sell out or catapult them to #1 with just a tweet. Well... not everybody is willing to blindly believe what JG and his minions say. How many issues were sold to sell out or to become #1? 100 (easy)… 1,000… 10,000… 100,000 (impressive) They’d brag if the numbers were big. If you won’t reveal the numbers, shut the f*ck up.

Variety: ‘Wonder Woman 3’ Won’t Fly in the New DC Universe, Despite Gal Gadot Teasing Development Plans (EXCLUSIVE)
Despite recent comments from Gal Gadot claiming DC heads James Gunn and Peter Safran told her they would develop “Wonder Woman 3” together, sources with knowledge of the situation tell Variety that is not the case. According to the sources, a third “Wonder Woman” film is not in development at DC Studios nor do Gunn and Safran have plans at this time for any “Wonder Woman” project in the new DC Universe other than their previously announced “Paradise Lost” prequel series for Max.
Gadot first suggested that “Wonder Woman 3” might not be fully dead in an interview with ComicBook.com. “I love portraying Wonder Woman,” she said. “It’s so close to and dear to my heart. From what I heard from James and from Peter is that we’re gonna develop a ‘Wonder Woman 3’ together.”
The actor made a potential future for “Wonder Woman 3” appear even more likely during a recently published profile by Flaunt magazine. In this interview, Gadot said she was assured by Gunn and Safran that “Wonder Woman 3” would be developed.
“I was invited to a meeting with James Gunn and Peter Safran,” Gadot said, “and what they told me, and I’m quoting: ‘You’re in the best hands. We’re going to develop Wonder Woman 3 with you. [We] love you as Wonder Woman— you’ve got nothing to worry about.’ So time will tell.”
The sources added to Variety that nothing was ever promised to Gadot regarding “Wonder Woman 3,” nor was there any definitive discussion of Gadot’s Wonder Woman continuing with the new DC Universe. Gunn and Safran gave a presentation at the start of the year unveiling the first titles in their new DC Universe, including “Superman: Legacy,” and they continue to be laser focused on these new films.

Good that JG didn’t say anything about BlackA. It would have grossed less.

GG is in that mess.

She’s happy for the new cast of JG’s SM film. I pity them. The SM curse has changed. Before, it was just SM films. Now, the SM film is part of a CBM-verse. The DCEU started so-so, but it’s getting worse. Films are flopping, the studio is losing millions, the studio humiliates the actors, one of the CEO’s love drama.

JG will write and direct the new SM film that will be connected to other films. I honestly wouldn’t want to be him. Look at what happened to the last director that directed the last SM film and helmed the DC-verse and JG is eager to be like him. Maybe he’ll break the curse. So far, it doesn’t look like it. Each time he praised a film, the film flopped. His TF praise (probably one of the greatest superhero movies ever made) will go down history as the biggest BS ever said. rofl

That may explain why he didn’t give his wife’s little film a shout-out. That’s how supportive he is. lol The wife, on the other hand, only wants people to know she’s in big films like GOTG, S!2 and BA, because those films are on her IG. Little films are posted as a story.
