I agree. JG came to DC and his first DC film is a soft reboot of DCEU's misfits film. Misfits are his thing. He can’t have DCEU’s misfits be someone else’s. But his flopped miserably.

Now JG wants a hero that isn’t a misfit. He went after SM, because that one is ZS’ baby. That’s why he had no problem firing HC. ZS’ DCEU started with MOS. Christopher was in four films, but George was the first in a theatrical feature film based on any DC Comics character. The theatrical film, Superman And The Mole Men, was the pilot for the TV series Adventures Of Superman. He was also in the short film Stamp Day For Superman, which was distributed to schools as a means of educating children about the program.

Brando Routh and HC, on the other hand, were the sole lead in one film. Maybe that’s the reason their hell wasn’t as awful as the former two. And MOS’ curse had the chance to affect more films and people than just HC.

David Ayer Says Suicide Squad ‘Broke’ Him

During an appearance on Real Ones with Jon Bernthal (via Deadline), the former DC filmmaker got candid about his experience making the first Suicide Squad movie.

“Hollywood, I tell people, is like watching someone you love get f*cked by someone you hate,” he explained. “The big one is Suicide Squad. That sh*t broke me. That handed me my @ss.”

It’s fair to say Ayer didn’t have the best experience with Suicide Squad. Following the film’s rocky reception, Ayer has long persisted that his original vision for the film was darker and more grounded.

Unfortunately, it looks as though the studio was still reeling from Batman V Superman, and with the success of comedy superhero flick Deadpool, it decided to push the project in a vastly different direction.

“Come right off Fury, right? I had the town in my hand, could’ve done anything, and I did do anything,” he said. “And [I] go on this journey with [Suicide Squad]. And the same thing — authentic, truthful, let’s do all the rehearsal, let’s really get in each other’s souls. Let’s create this amazing, collaborative thing, right? And then Deadpool opened… and they never tested Batman v Superman so they were expecting a different result, and then they got hammered by all the critics. Then it’s like, ‘Okay, we’re going to turn David Ayer’s dark, soulful movie into a f**king comedy now.'”

The result was a chaotic mess – a film that lived up to neither ambition. However, Ayer has confirmed his own version of the film, the infamous Ayer Cut, is still out there… and could even be released one day.

The relationship between Heard’s character Mera and Jason Momoa’s titular superhero is one of the main focuses of the 2018 original movie.

However, in the new trailer for the sequel, which is released on 20 December, Mera is seen for just a split second thumping on a glass window underwater.

The trailer comes just a day after director James Wanconfronted Heard’s claim that her part as Mera in the sequel was “pared down” due to her high-profile 2022 defamation trial against her ex-husband Johnny Depp.

During the trial, Heard testified that her role was significantly cut down after Depp’s legal team called her abuse claims a “hoax”.

“I fought really hard to stay in the movie. They didn’t want to include me in the film,” she said at the time.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Wan, who also directed the first Aquaman, denied that Heard’s trial had played a part in the creative decision-making.

“I always pitched this to everyone from the get-go. The first Aquaman was Arthur and Mera’s journey. The second movie was always going to be Arthur and Orm,” the director said, referring to the name of Momoa’s character and Patrick Wilson’s supervillain.

“So, the first was a romance action-adventure movie, the second one is a bromance action-adventure movie. We’ll leave it at that.”

JM can’t promote AM2, because of the strikes. Posting the trailer without writing anything on your socials isn’t allowed either.

I don’t know why JG isn’t promoting it, though. He’s a co-CEO, producer, director and writer. He can’t do any writing, but he can promote films. The writers strike started May 2nd and he promoted GOTG3, TF and BB.

Some films got a waiver. I read somewhere that films that were shot during COVID got a waiver. The actors and actresses can promote those films. I think AM2 was shot during COVID. Or maybe I misunderstood.

“Nothing is canon until Creature Commandos next year — a sort of aperitif to the DCU — & then a deeper dive into the universe with Superman: Legacy after that,” Gunn replied. “It’s a very human drive to want to understand everything all the time, but I think its okay to be confused on what’s happening in the DCU since no one has seen anything from the DCU yet.”

He continued, “And, yes, some actors will be playing characters they’ve played in other stories & some plot points might be consistent with plot points from the dozens of films, shows & animated projects that have come from DC in the past. But nothing is canon until CC and Legacy.”

Creature Commandos is the first piece to Gunn and Safran’s previously announced Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters saga of their DCU. Viola Davis is set to reprise her role as Amanda Waller in the animated Max series launching in 2024 that also includes voice actors Frank Grillo, Maria Bakalova and David Harbour. Additionally, Davis will star on the live-action Max series Waller, which is among the titles planned for this first chapter.

In response to a fan asking how Blue Beetle, the Warner Bros. film that debuted theatrically last month starring Xolo Maridueña, would factor into the new plans, Gunn replied, “Xolo Maridueña will continue playing Blue Beetle in the DCU, as Viola Davis will Amanda Waller, and John Cena will Peacemaker.”

That trio joins David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan as Superman and Lois Lane, respectively, who will star in “Superman: Legacy,” in theaters July 11, 2025.

But the performers Gunn didn’t mention are just as notable.

It’s still unclear if Ezra Miller will return as “The Flash” following the movie’s poor box office performance and the actor’s erratic behavior and legal woes.

Jason Momoa, who plays Aquaman, also didn’t get a shoutout. The actors said in an interview with Total Film, “I absolutely think Aquaman will be involved in the DCU.”

But that is likely dependent on the success of “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,” out Dec. 20. No future Aquaman projects have been announced.

“Wonder Woman” actress Gal Gadot told Flaunt magazine this year that Gunn and Safran told her, “We’re going to develop ‘Wonder Woman 3’ with you.” But insider sources told Variety that is not true and that a third “Wonder Woman” is not in development.

Meanwhile, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson tweeted that his Black Adam character, whose title film was a huge bomb, “will not be in their first chapter of storytelling” of the new DCEU. But that does not necessarily exclude Johnson from future entries.

And Gunn also didn’t name Zachary Levi, whose “Shazam! Fury of the Gods” was crushed by critics. Levi told The Hollywood Reporter, “I hope it’s not my last.”

JG was asked about Xolo and he added Viola Davis and John Cena.

BTW, he mentions John Cena, not Peace Maker. Oh, we’re trying to avoid the wife situation, aren’t we? Will JG recast the show? Cancel it and just use John in other things? I doubt it. After the young bride made it clear to the public in a long-winded post that she REALLY loves his pedophile arse, I doubt he has the heart, balls or spine to take her PM character, the only thing she seems to have, away from her.
