The Flash: This Superman Cameo May Be The Most Controversial

The last and most controversial cameo is that of George Reeves. While newer audiences may not be familiar with the actor, George Reeves' Superman was the second actor ever to play the superhero in the early 1950s TV show, Adventures of Superman, which lasted for 6 seasons, with the first 2 seasons shot in black and white due to technology limitations in that era. His cameo in The Flash is also shown in a black-and-white sequence, matching the TV Show. While the movie intended to pay homage to the late actor by including a cameo, it did backfire as many fans saw it as disrespectful to the late actor, and the actor himself may not have wanted this.

During the 1950s, superhero cinema didn't pay as well as other genres of film and television compared to today, and though George Reeves' exact salary is unknown, it is speculated that it was modest, leaving him financially strained. Despite the success of his portrayal, the show, Adventures of Superman, unfortunately, had to end after six seasons, with his departure being a mutual decision between Reeves and the show's writers. This led to difficulties for him in finding other acting opportunities, as he became typecast solely as Superman, which affected his career negatively.

What followed was a life marked by financial difficulties and an inability to find further roles due to being strongly associated with the character of Superman. Tragically, George Reeves passed away at the age of 45 on June 16, 1959. While the true reason for his death remains unknown, many speculate that he took his own life due to feeling trapped as Superman, being unable to secure other roles, and experiencing a decline in his mental health at that point.

Bringing the late actor back to life via a CGI shot was a bad move by Warner Bros. since all his life George Reeves tried to escape the role of Superman. The late actor himself may not have wanted this. Additionally, The Flash was released on the same day as George Reeves' death which many fans were enraged over. The late actor didn't leave behind any descendants from which Warner Bros. could ask before including his cameo. Despite his tragic ending, Warner Bros. decided to bring him back intending to pay homage to the character which still isn't a good moral decision.

The Flash's Already Awful Christopher Reeve Cameo Somehow Got Worse

Not only did this sequence draw the ire of fans and general audiences, but it even sparked backlash from actors and filmmakers in the industry. The appearance of one character in particular already felt out of place, but recent details described by the figure's family make the cameo not only feel more questionable but also feel all around in poor taste.

The climactic battle of The Flash sees Barry Allen, his alternate clone, an older and wiser Batman (Michael Keaton), and a formerly incarcerated Supergirl (Sasha Calle) face the unstoppable Kryptonian fleet of General Zod (Michael Shannon). While this impromptu Justice League does its best to repel Zod's forces, their best just isn't enough, as the two Barry Allens watch as Batman and Supergirl perish in battle. The two speedsters get the idea of going back in time to help turn the tide periodically. Still, the more they do this, the more Barry Allen Prime realizes that Zod's victory is inevitable, and he never should have altered his timeline.

After being greeted by an evil Barry Allen from the future, we see other timelines from other universes begin to collide. One by one we see Elseworlds of DC's cinematic past, ranging all the way back to George Reeves' classic Superman the 1950s' Adventures with Superman and the iconic Adam West version of Batman. Some characters and universes get a more overt appearance, such as a cameo from Nicolas Cage's Superman from the notoriously canceled Superman Lives. Cage reportedly did film a sequence in person for the film, but admits that the CGI spider fight seen in the final cut is not something he had any physical part in. Superman Lives' prospective director Tim Burton also heavily criticized the cameo, calling the CG a form of misappropriation. The Nic Cage Superman cameo has proven to be contentious, but the appearance that is the most problematic was that of CGI Christopher Reeve, the beloved actor who portrayed Clark Kent in Richard Donner's Superman movies and passed away roughly 20 years ago.

With the Nicolas Cage appearance, The Flash production, got his consent and permission to use his character in the film (even if they didn't necessarily use the footage shot to create him). Christopher Reeve, having passed in 2004, obviously can't consent to having his likeness used, so presumably, that duty would fall to Reeve's estate and/or family. While promoting the documentary about their father, Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story, at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival, Will, Matthew, and Alexandra Reeve broke their silence on the sequence in The Flash involving their father. According to them, despite being Reeve's next of kin, they admitted that they hadn't even seen the film yet, and it's not difficult to understand why.

It's fitting that The Flash released in theaters just a month before the SAG-AFTRA strike began, as the uncanny CGI cameos feel like exactly what the union was concerned about. The idea of people and actors, even if they've passed on, being replaced by AI and technology sounds like it would have been science fiction only a few years ago. Now, it's become a genuine and concerning issue that runs the risk of compromising not only the jobs of actors, but also artistic integrity in general. The backlash to the CGI Christopher Reeve in The Flash should teach some lessons to Hollywood.

On Monday, Jurassic World’s official Instagram account posted the iconic T-rex logo, made famous by the 1993 blockbuster, this time adding a date: July 2, 2025.

Channing Tatum Moves Forward on Another Superhero Project After Gambit Failure

On Instagram, Channing Tatum revealed that he has a new superhero project in the works: The Maxx.

The project had been long in the works, because Tatum was originally supposed to play the giant, purple superhero in 2019, alongside producing partner Roy Lee (Doctor Sleep). However, the project is still moving forward, as Tatum revealed, adding that "this is a childhood love of mine," further going back to his childhood and explaining how much it meant to him.

Paramount Pictures and Channing Tatum's live-action movie is based on the comic book by Sam Keith, who has done acclaimed work for both Marvel and DC. The series first debuted in 1993, and it ran for 35 issues, following the complex relationship between Maxx and Julie, following the strange relationship between two realities. In one of them, Maxx is a troubled homeless man, and Julie is his caseworker. However, in the other reality, the mysterious realm called The Outback, he is a hulking, masked, huge, purple superhero who protects the Jungle Queen Julie. However, that reality may or may not be happening in Maxx's head.

There is no official release date for The Maxx, but Tatum has quite a few projects lined up. He is to star in the upcoming Aaron Nee and Adam Nee comedy Calamity Hustle, next to Ryan Reynolds, in Greg Berlanti's unnamed rom-com alongside Scarlett Johansson and Woody Harrelson, as well as his fiancée Zoë Kravitz's directorial debut thriller, Pussy Island, alongside Christian Slater, Geena Davis, and Adria Arjona.

Reddit user u/aambro flagged an article in the Columbus Business Journal which included the claim that the film

is expected to receive more than $11 million in tax credits. Superman: Legacy projects it will hire 3,254 Ohio residents, according to the application. The film’s total eligible production expenditures for the Ohio Motion Picture Tax Credit were nearly $37 million, or a little more than 10% of the film’s total budget of more than $363.8 million.

This got a decent amount of traction on reddit and James Gunn responded OP on Threads denying the claim. Saying "How in the world do they think they know what our budget is."

The answer is actually pretty clear if you look for it. I googled the government website for the Ohio Motion Picture Tax Credit. That page includes

Public Records Notice - All information submitted in connection with an application is subject to public records information disclosure pursuant to Ohio Revised Code 149.43, unless the information is protected by another statute including commercial or financial information pursuant to 122.36 of the Ohio Revised Code or data which consists of trade secrets, as defined in 1333.61 of the Ohio Revised Code.

...So I decided to do that. You're correctly not going to get access to trade secrets like the script Superman submitted but the budget information isn't restricted.

budget definition tangent: let's clarify that "reported" production budgets contain a mix of gross and net budgets (or really, gross budgets, net budgets and rounded down net budgets) with the generic one (especially for big budget films) being a slightly rounded down net budget. You can see this attested in multiple places and is why I took a stab in the dark at extrapolating to what this $363M number means for the films real production budget (basically I took 25% off the topline gross spend and rounded to nearest quarter million). If you want to be really conservative, you can say this implies a budget between $250M and $300M.

Superman Legacy filed a tax credit application for $36,972,289 and the full production budget is 363,845,386.00 so the Ohio spend represents 10.16% of the budget. ADDITIONALLY "25% of the production is being shot in Ohio" (another article reported this number). They have to provide all of this information due to Section 122.85 of the Ohio Code. However, this section doesn't define "production budget."

Section 122.85. (B) For the purpose of encouraging and developing strong film and theater industries in this state, the director of development may certify a motion picture or broadway theatrical production produced by a production company as a tax credit-eligible production....Each application shall include the following information:...122.85.B(5) The total production budget; 122.85.B(6) The total budgeted eligible expenditures and the percentage that amount is of the total production budget of the motion picture or broadway theatrical production; 122.85.B(7) In the case of a motion picture, the total percentage of the production being shot in Ohio;

There has been speculation for months that Henry Cavill might show up in Deadpool 3, aka Deadpool & Wolverine, but it’s mostly been fan fantasy. Now, however, I’ve been able to confirm that Henry Cavill will indeed appear in Deadpool 3. More than that, I know who he’s playing.

Henry Cavill will appear in Deadpool & Wolverine as a multiverse variant of Wolverine. His version will be wearing a long brown coat when he shows up, and this will be Cavill’s first appearance in the Marvel universe.

TRON: ARES Set Video Features First Look At MORBIUS Star Jared Leto Without His Helmet

Cameras are currently rolling in Vancouver, Canada, and a video from the sequel's set gives us a first glimpse of Leto preparing to shoot a scene without his helmet.

The Morbius and Blade Runner 2049 actor stars as "a highly sophisticated Program, Ares, who is sent from the digital world into the real world on a dangerous mission, marking humankind’s first encounter with A.I. beings."

This marks a major departure from the previous movies, which took place almost entirely in the digital world of the Tron arcade game known as The Grid.

TRON: Ares will also star Greta Lee, Evan Peters, Hasan Minhaj, Jodie Turner-Smith, Arturo Castro, Cameron Monaghan, with Gillian Anderson.

Leto will also produce along with Sean Bailey, Jeffrey Silver, Justin Springer, Emma Ludbrook and Steven Lisberger, with Russell Allen on board as executive producer.

“I’m excited to be part of the TRON franchise and bring this new film to fans around the world," director Joachim Rønning said in a statement.

‘The Batman Part II’ Delayed a Year to 2026

The Batman Part II is flying off to a new date. The film will now open Oct. 2, 2026. That’s back a full year from its previous date.

Batman 2 wasn’t the only notable change made to Warner Bros. release calendar on Tuesday: The Maggie Gyllenhaal-directed The Bride!, starring Christian Bale, will take Batman 2‘s old date of Oct. 3, 2025; Barry Levinson’s gangster pic Alto Nights is being delayed from Nov. 24, 2024 to March 21, 2025; and Paul Thomas Anderson’s untitled, star-studded event pic has landed an Aug. 8, 2025, release date. All of the titles will be offered in Imax.

The sequel to Matt Reeves‘ The Batman was first announced at CinemaCon in April 2022. In August of that year, Mattson Tomlin boarded to co-write with Reeves, and in late January 2023, DC Studios bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran gave the film a title and date of Oct. 3, 2025. Since April 2022, MR knew that Battinson would get a sequel, because it was announced at CinemaCon on Apr. 26.

Variety: Warner Bros. revealed its plans for another Caped Crusader story during its Tuesday evening presentation at CinemaCon, the annual trade show for theater owners. “The Batman” director Matt Reeves was on hand to announce the news that he will write and direct the follow-up, but he did not provide any details about what the movie will entail.

The writers' strike started a year later on May 2nd, 2023 and ended September 27. Battinson was supposed to start filming in November 2023. So by May, most of the screenplay should haven been ready, if they wanted to start filming in November.

Then filming moved to April 2024. That's six months after the writers' strike ended. So MR had a total of 18 months. WTH was he doing?

Midgard Times: The filming for Robert Pattinson's The Batman Part II has been delayed and it is no longer starting in November 2023 as planned previously. The delay might be related to the WGA strike, as all the writing activities have been paused and writers of the film Matt Reeves and Mattson Tomlin are also actively part of the strike which is demanding fair wages and work policy for all the writers. ‘The Batman Part 2’ is now expected to begin filming in March 2024 in London, UK. However, this delay is unlikely to have any impact on the release of the sequel. Batman Part II is currently scheduled to release on October 3, 2025, which is still more than two years from now, giving an ample amount of time to complete the production.

Sources tell Deadline that Emmy winner Julia Garner is set to play the iconic comic book character in Marvel Studios’ The Fantastic Four.

Wanda Vision helmer Matt Shakman is directing Fantastic Four off a script by Josh Friedman, Jeff Kaplan, Eric Pearson and Ian Springer. Production will begin this summer, and the film is set to bow on July 25, 2025.

While plot details for this film are unknown, sources say Garner will play Shalla-Bal, a version of Silver Surfer from the comics.

Tron: Ares Official Release Date Announced

Tron: Ares is set for an October 2025 release, Disney announced today. The film is the third feature-length installment in the franchise, which also spawned video games, comics, music, theme park attractions, and an animated series on Disney XD. This time around, Jared Leto will headline the movie. The franchise has had middling box office success, but both Tron and its 2010 sequel Tron: Legacy turned out to be cult favorites, and the lightcycle ride at Disney parks has been a big success. The new movie will be previewed at CinemaCon, and is set for release on October 10, 2025.

Each of the Tron movies has been a technological experiment, working with cutting edge CGI technology to come up with visuals that look different from other blockbusters. Producer Justin Springer says Disney is trying to keep that aspect of the production intact with Ares.

"We want to make sure we have a movie that feels like it meets the ambition of the things that have come before it. So I would love to do it," Springer told ComicBook.com last year. "And I think now the ideas that we've explored in TRON and where you would imagine those ideas evolving to are more relevant than they've ever been. It’s controversial in Japan given the subject matter of the film, which follows the American theoretical physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer (played by Cillian Murphy) who led the creation of the atomic bombs. Those weapons of mass destruction were detonated in 1945 over Hiroshima and Nagasaki, killing hundreds of thousands of Japanese citizens.

Distributor Toho-Towa, which releases the majority of Hollywood films in Japan, opted to not get involved with “Oppenheimer.” It looked like the movie wouldn’t come to Japan, until last December when Bitters End picked up the film “following months of thoughtful dialogue associated with the subject matter.”

Compared to Nolan’s prior films, initial ticket sales for “Oppenheimer” were

• above “Interstellar,” “Batman Begins,” “Dunkirk” and “The Dark Knight”;
  
• on par with “The Dark Knight Rises” and “Tenet”;
  
• below “Inception” at the same point in their rollout, according to Universal.
  

“Inception” is the director’s top-grossing movie in Japan with $42 million, while his two most recent releases, “Tenet” and “Dunkirk,” generated $25 million and $14.8 million respectively in the country’s cinemas.

Some geeks posted pics of their dog doing something funny, so must JG. He found a way to use a pet to kill two birds with one stone. The pet does something JG thinks is funny while at the same time he can try to debunk the rumors about problems between him and one of the main cast. They used the poor pet to make a few jokes to show that everything's cookie and cream. But the only thing that showed is that the problem was likely between him and the owner of the dog. Geeks said the main cast, not the leads.

JG also wants everybody to know that someone loves him so much that they made stickers of his face and put them on everybody's PC. Yeah, a minion would do that. I guess that's supposed to mean that everybody likes him and everything's cookie and cream on set. The only thing that showed is that the pedophile is dragging people in his childish shenanigans.

Those people were hired to help make a film. They weren't hired to participate in BS bc their boss needs to debunk all kinds of things said online to be able to sleep soundly. Do you see any other director doing this sh*t?
